Environmental justice recognizes that environmental benefits and burdens should be distributed fairly, and that the people making policy decisions should incorporate the views of those most often harmed: people of color, Indigenous populations, low-income communities, and those who are underserved and disenfranchised for other reasons such as age, gender, or disability. It encompasses not only traditional environmental issues like clean air and clean water, but also social issues such as employment, nutrition, and access to health care.

Patients are critical to healthcare delivery, yet their concerns and perspective are frequently lost in translation or, at worst, blatantly ignored. Patients don’t even have a place in organizational charts. Yet patients deserve their own branch of science, and author Pamela J. Brink, RN, PhD, FAAN, has started a conversation about giving patients that niche in a new area of study called “patientology”. This work is a brief overview of concepts such as medical sociology and nursing, and will prompt further research and delineation.

We’re used to assuming that politics stop at the classroom door. Those days are over. Are your kids being indoctrinated in school? Unfortunately, it’s increasingly likely. From “social justice” to critical race theory, and from advocacy and activism campaigns to planned “action weeks", teachers and schools nationwide are abandoning neutrality in the classroom, embracing political agendas and partisan aims, and expecting students to get on board.
