Wordsworth's The Prelude is the consummation of his achievement as the great founder of English romanticism. An autobiography in verse, it tells of his childhood in the Lake District, his student days in Cambridge, his passion for the French Revolution and his later disenchantment with it. It also tells of his personal journey to a belief in Nature as the great moral and spiritual force which shapes human life, but on which human society all too often turns its back.

Jane Austen, George Eliot, and Thomas Hardy-three great masters of the English novel-are three remarkable imagining minds. As readers of their novels, we feel ourselves to be in contact with their authorial minds and conjure the minds they create spread across the pages of their narrative worlds. In the way that we believe in and hold in mind the idea that other human beings have minds of their own do we as readers of the novel believe we are in the presence of these other minds. But how?

A John Wayne State of Mind is the second collection of poems by the Anglo Welsh poet Ian Kenneth Bailey. The author lives in West Cork, Ireland, and many of the 41 poems - with biographical footnotes - reflect his unique experiences on the course of 2019, when, in the author's own words, he "was bonfired on a pyre of lies in Paris". A John Wayne State of Mind is the second collection and a follow up to earlier historic poems entitled The West Cork Way.

These poems are thoughts, recollections, ponderings, snapshots of time, deliberations upon events, and the playing with words for the expression of emotion. But they are all meaningful to me at some level. Some are written solely in standard English, others in Ulster Scots, others in a combination of both. This is a good representation of my speech, sometimes Ulster Scots, sometimes standard English, but normally a combination.

The Rhymes in My Mind is Samantha Turner’s latest hugely personal and beautifully observational collection of poetry. Twenty poems paint verbal pictures of human emotions from love and fear, faith and longing, to nostalgia for her native North England and her love of nature and the changing world around her.
