Mary Shelley

Frankenstein : The Modern Prometheus is an 1818 novel written by Mary Shelley. Frankenstein tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a sapient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18, and the first edition was published anonymously in London on 1 January 1818, when she was 20. Her name first appeared in the second edition, which was published in Paris in 1821.Since the publication of the novel, the name "Frankenstein" has often been used, erroneously, to refer to the monster, rather than to his creator.

Frankenstein is a dark and brooding dramatisation of Mary Shelley's famous novel, and stars Michael Maloney as the scientist who makes a creature in his own name.

Denied a female counterpart, the creature turns on his creator, then murders Frankenstein's brother. In an attempt to destroy his creation, the scientist tracks him to the Arctic.

Over the last two hundred years, Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus has formed the basis of many motion pictures, theatrical productions, and television shows. The familiar tale of a scientist who attempts to create life from the body parts of the dead has been told as traditional drama, comedy and satire, Shakespearean tragedy, and absurdist melodrama. It has also inspired the work of other writers to create their own unique tales, like Maurice Renard’s The Hands of Orlac, Curt Siodmak’s Donovan’s Brain, Hanns Heinz Ewers’ Alraune, and many others.

Frankenstein: or the Modern Prometheus by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. This is a classic (gothic) horror story, and one of the earliest examples of science fiction. The main characters are Dr. Frankenstein and his creation, the daemon. Shelley called the scientist a "pale student of unhallowed arts" and his creation a "hideous phantasm of a man." This story is not only delightfully frightful, but arguably represents one of the clearest criticisms of science during a time when, like the daemon, it was leaving its own infancy and, like Dr. Frankenstein, testing its ethical boundaries. As ...
