Isobel Avery’s first six months as an undercover poison taster haven’t exactly been easy. But this week will be worse. Two people with nothing in common are found dead. Apparently poisoned by an artificial intelligence security system. Now Izzy needs to find out whether robots are taking over the world or if there's a geeky murderer on the loose. Oh, and she also needs to juggle the demands of her personal life - playing along with Etta's latest deception, rehoming a mysteriously acquired stray dog, cheering up her mopey housemate, and helping Harper cut ties with her boyfriend.

Suddenly I’m offering my services in any way I can. Need help babysitting your new puppy? Check. Bakery invaded by a rogue duck? Check. Missed dinner and want takeout? Check. Except that late at night after I’m done with patrol, we fall into bed. And onto the kitchen counter. And into the shower. Turns out that whole protect-and-serve thing apparently doesn’t extend to birth control.

Friend. Lovers. Blood kin. Humans. Beast kin. Enemies. Targets. At one time, humans and beast kin called each other friends. They weathered the bad times together and celebrated the good times. They even called one another blood brothers and sisters. They fought beside one another. Time has made these two groups forget their shared history - forget their past relationships. Now, instead of fighting beside one another, the lands at Selenus and Radal prepare to end their cease-fire and once again soak Dena in one another’s blood.
