Since coming home to Spirit Bear Point First Nation, Hazel Ellis has been dreaming of an old crow. He tells her he’s here to help her, save her. From what, exactly? Sure, her dad’s been dead for almost two years and she hasn’t quite reconciled that grief, but is that worth the time of an Algonquin demigod? Soon Hazel learns that there’s more at play than just her own sadness and doubt. The quarry that’s been lying unsullied for over a century on her father’s property is stirring the old magic that crosses the boundaries between this world and the next.

Two Feathers was a young Native learning the ways of the Choctaw. However, he was not like the other men in his village who lived off of the land, farming and raising livestock. He enjoyed spilling the blood of the invaders and was absent, fighting, more than he was home. Still, he had fallen for the little white girl who couldn’t farm, couldn’t make baskets, and was generally a failure at native life. Returning from a battle, he discovered the white men had taken Bliss, the woman with whom he expected to share his life. Gone were his desires to do anything other than locate her.

The times are changing faster than Running Elk can keep up with. Every day when the Comanche wakes up, there are fewer buffalo and more white settlers invading the plains where he and his people make their home. Angered as he is by the relentless assault on the land he loves, Running Elk doesn’t think about the differences between his people and the settlers when he spots Alexandria Standish picking flowers one day. The woman’s beauty bowls him over, and Running Elk knows he won’t be able to avoid seeking her out, again and again, no matter the consequences.
