What if the dream God put in you was never primarily about you?

Joseph had a dream at 17. But he wasn't yet the man who could carry it.

Between the dream and its fulfillment came betrayal, slavery, temptation, silence, suffering, waiting, and formation. The gift didn't disappear. Joseph changed. He went from dreaming about himself to interpreting the dreams of others. From wanting to be seen to becoming someone who could serve. From pursuing his own elevation to using his authority to preserve an entire generation.

Maybe that's what vocation is really about.

Not becoming impressive. Not building a life around your own success. Not even seeing your biggest dreams come true.

It's about allowing God to form you into the kind of person who can use what He's given you to love and serve other people.

The dream isn't the destination.

Jesus is.

And perhaps the greatest sign of maturity is becoming willing to go where you don't want to go—and to use what you do best for the sake of someone else.
