Motherhood, The Otherhood & Everything In Between | ft. Charlyne McWilliamsUnfiltered with Roxy | Collab EpisodeIn this episode of Unfiltered with Roxy, I sit down with the delightful Charlyne McWilliams for a real, unfiltered conversation about motherhood at every stage and the "otherhood" that comes with it. Whether you're raising a ten-year-old who's going on 36, navigating adult children who know everything, or somewhere in between, this one's for you.We laugh, we get deep, and we go places we didn't even plan to go because that's what happens when two women who actually get it sit down together.✨ In This Episode We Talk AboutWhy our bodies start doing the most (snap, crackle, and pop) as we get older — and why that's just life, no matter your size or fitness levelSleep, perimenopause, B12, and magnesium — the real ones keeping us functionalLetting go of the rigid, Type-A perfectionism that was literally spinning us outThe actual value of therapy — especially for Black women and Black Christian folks who were taught to just pray it awayWhy your therapist doesn't have to look like you — they just have to hear youCommunicating with adult children without losing your entire mind (or your faith)Setting the atmosphere in your home and why you hold that powerRaising kids who know how to feel their feelings and still show up with integrityThe hormonal collision of raising a tween while you're in perimenopause (someone get the fan)Giving your kids the tools to be good humans — not perfect ones✨ Key TakeawaysYour body will humble you — and that's okay. Rest is regenerative, not lazy.Therapy is a gift, not a weakness. It gives you a clean-slate listener who can help you get through the noise in your own head. You can love Jesus and go to therapy. He sent you help — take it.Stuffing your emotions doesn't protect your kids — it costs them. Address things when you can, and give yourself grace when you can't.You set the atmosphere. Your energy shapes your household more than you know. It's okay to be a work in progress. The goal isn't perfection — it's intentionality.Celebrate that your kids aren't infamous. That's a win. That counts."We're doing the best that we can. We love our kids and we want to make sure we're giving them tools that'll help them be good adults. Just be a good human."— Charlyne McWilliams🎙️ Meet Charlyne McWilliamsCharlyne is a 56-year-old mother, wisdom-dropper, and self-proclaimed auntie to the world, the kind of woman who always has exactly what you need in her bag. • Winter Blues vs Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): How to Feel Better During Winter
    Jan 29 2026
Winter Blues vs Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): How to Feel Better During WinterIn this episode of Unfiltered with Roxy, I talk honestly about winter blues, the difference between Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and how our beliefs about winter can either work against us or support our healing. This conversation is for anyone who’s been feeling slower, less motivated, or out of rhythm after the holidays. We explore why the winter blues often hit in January, how reduced sunlight and routine shifts affect mood, and why learning to work with the season , instead of fighting it, can make all the difference.I share personal reflections, health-based insights, and practical wellness tools including soft mornings, sunlight exposure, walking in cold weather, hydration, food choices, music, joyful movement, and reclaiming sacred space. This isn’t a “push through it” episode, it’s an invitation to come back to yourself with compassion, intention, and seasonal wisdom.✨ Key TakeawaysWinter blues are common—low energy, wanting to stay home more, sleeping a little extra, feeling “meh”—but you can still function and enjoy life.SAD is more intense—loss of interest in things you normally enjoy, global withdrawal, and bigger shifts in sleep, appetite, and energy that last at least a couple weeks.Your winter mindset matters: shifting from dread to “what can I enjoy and learn in this season?” helps reduce shame and resistance.Soft mornings are valid: winter may require a gentler routine so your body and mind can reset without feeling punished.Sunlight is like a nutrient: even 15 minutes outside supports vitamin D, mood, and circadian rhythm (especially important if you work indoors).Consistency beats intensity: walking and gentle movement support mood and energy, and cold-weather walks can feel harder because your body is working to stay warm.Joy is a wellness tool: music, dancing, Zumba/BodyJam, and playlists can lift your mood and reconnect you to your body.Winter nourishment helps your mood: hydration, fiber, protein, and seasonal foods like soups and roasted veggies support energy and emotional balance.Create a sacred space: even a corner or closet can become your prayer/journaling/meditation space—separate from work and distractions.Winter is a rooting season: connection, reflection, and renewal count as progress.Quote of the Episode“Winter doesn’t ask us to bloom, it asks us to root.”📚 Resources & Research MentionedWinter Blues vs. SAD (UC Davis Health)https://health.ucdavis.edu/blog/cultivating-health/seasonal-affective-disorder-winter-blues-and-self-care-tips-to-get-ahead-of-symptoms/2023/1110 Cool Ways to Beat the Winter Blues – Crisis & Trauma Resource Institutehttps://ctrinstitute.com/blog/10-cool-ways-beat-winter-blues/Walking to Combat SAD: The Power of Outdoor Movement (incl. cold-weather walking benefits)https://www.wewardapp.com/blog/walking-to-combat-sad-the-power-of-outdoor-movementWhy Morning Sunlight Matters (Asleep At Last)https://www.asleepatlast.com/blog/dont-wear-sunglasses-in-the-morning988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (U.S.)Call or text 988✨ Join Me on the Road to 1,000 Subscribers on YouTube! ✨I’m building a community of healing, growth, and unfiltered conversations. • My First Vlogmas — What Creating Every Day Taught Me!
    Dec 28 2025
My First Vlogmas — What Creating Every Day Taught Me!In this episode, I share an honest and reflective wrap-up of my Vlogmas experience and what creating consistently taught me — not just about content, but about creativity, preparation, authenticity, systems, and connection. This season wasn’t about perfection or going viral. It became a real-time lesson in self-awareness, growth, and what it actually takes to show up as a creator in a way that feels aligned and sustainable.I talk through what worked, what didn’t, what I scrapped along the way, and the big question many creators ask: Did Vlogmas actually help my channel grow? More importantly, I reflect on how the process helped me grow — creatively, personally, and spiritually. If you’re a creator, a thinker, or someone sitting on ideas you haven’t fully developed yet, this episode is an invitation to slow down, make space, and trust your process.Key Takeaways• Expectation vs. reality in content creation• Why ideas don’t exist in a vacuum and need systems to land• The “unsexy” side of creating: charging devices, storage, sound, lighting, and setup• How tech readiness can either support or block inspiration• The importance of clearing digital and physical space for creativity• Capturing ideas quickly before they disappear• The difference between capturing ideas and developing them fully• Using journaling, Notes app voice capture, ChatGPT journaling, and Monkey Pages• Letting go of overly polished or misaligned ideas• Choosing authenticity over performance or trend-chasing• The role of family support, accountability, and encouragement• Why connection — not virality — was the real win• How Vlogmas helped the channel grow through clarity, confidence, and skill-buildingQuote of the Episode“Vlogmas didn’t make me perfect — it made me clearer.”Resources & Practices Mentioned• Notes app (written + voice capture for ideas)• Journaling & Monkey Pages• ChatGPT journaling for idea development• Walking as intentional thinking time• Decluttering physical and digital spaces• External storage planning for content organizationCreators & Resources That Supported My Vlogmas Process• AmyTV – Time management & creator systemshttps://www.youtube.com/@AmyTV• Katie – Content creation do’s, don’ts, and whyhttps://www.youtube.com/@katie• This Is Virginia Kerr – Consistency, practice, and refining contenthttps://www.youtube.com/@ThisIsVirginiaKerr• Diaka Melendez – Being yourself and keeping content easyhttps://www.youtube.com/@DiakaMelendez• Career Coach Mandy – Encouragement, confidence, and ease of postinghttps://www.youtube.com/@careercoachmandy✨ Join Me on the Road to 1,000 Subscribers on YouTube! ✨I’m building a community of healing, growth, and unfiltered conversations.
