  • Say It Unafraid: The Conversation You've Been Avoiding
    Apr 29 2026

    NEW SERIES: Say It Unafraid!

You've replayed it in your head 100 times. You know what you want to say. And then the moment comes and… nothing. Or everything comes out wrong. In this episode, Coach Suzette and Kim kick off the Unafraid Communication mini-series by unpacking why hard conversations feel so risky — and what's actually happening in your brain when they do.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

Why communication feels hard — and why it's not really about the words. Your brain is constantly asking "Am I safe right now?" and when a conversation feels emotionally charged, your brain experiences it as a threat, not a neutral exchange.

The three levels of every conversation: (1) the words — what was actually said, (2) the story — what we think those words mean about us or the relationship, and (3) safety — whether your body feels calm or threatened. Most communication breakdowns happen at levels 2 and 3, not level 1.

Why avoiding hard conversations doesn't keep the peace — it builds tension, resentment, sarcasm, and eventually emotional explosions.

What healthy communication actually looks like: honest, kind, clear without being cruel, calm without being silent, and full of grace.

Practical tools: name your intention before you speak, trade mind-reading for curiosity, and if you freeze or ramble, call it out with one honest sentence to reset the tone.

Coach Suzette's personal story of building "mental muscles" for communication — from shutting down and crying in conflict to standing her ground calmly.

Key takeaway: Communication doesn't start with perfect words. It starts with safety and grace.

Action step: Take one brave step this week — get clarification instead of making assumptions. Your brain and your relationships will thank you.
