  • The Marriage Lesson I Wish I Had Learned 50 Years Ago | Episode #062
    Jul 14 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

After more than 50 years of marriage, after 36 years of counseling couples as a pastor, and studying the Bible, I've come to believe something I never would have believed as a young husband.

A wife's greatest need isn't anything I would have imagined: her deepest longing is to feel safe.

In this episode, I share the two marriage lessons I wish someone had taught me before Debbie and I got married. They changed not only our marriage, but my understanding of God, myself, and what it truly means to love another person.

I'll share the story of the man God used to lead me to Christ, why I once questioned the Bible's teaching on sacrificial love, and how overcoming shame and self-doubt transformed the way I relate to my wife.

If you've ever wanted a stronger marriage, don't start by asking how to change your spouse. Start by asking what kind of person God is inviting you to become.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why emotional safety is one of the greatest gifts a husband can give his wife.
    • How insecurity quietly affects every marriage.
    • Why your spouse can never provide the security only Christ can give.
    • How resting in God's love frees you to love sacrificially.

My prayer is that this conversation helps you become a husband, father, and leader who reflects the love of Christ.

If you'd like to take the next step, download my free eBook, Five Lies Christian Men Believe That Keep Them Stuck, or reach out to learn more about coaching.

03:08 – What it really means to make your wife feel safe
05:08 – The second lesson: becoming secure in Christ
05:29 – Why insecurity damages every relationship
    06:12 – The marriage I almost missed

The secret to the blessed life isn't escaping your limitations. It's accepting them.

Do you ever feel like you're constantly trying to be more?

Smarter. Stronger. More confident. More successful. More respected.

No matter how much you accomplish, it never feels like enough.

In Psalm 131, David reveals a surprising path to peace—not by escaping your limitations, but by embracing them. He compares himself to a weaned child, teaching us that maturity isn't getting everything we want. It's learning to trust God when we don't.

    In this episode, you'll discover:

    • Why trying to be "enough" is an exhausting battle you'll never win.
    • The hidden reason so many Christian men struggle with shame and self-doubt.
    • What it really means to be humble.
    • Why God gave us limitations—and how He uses them for our good.
    • The powerful lesson behind David's comparison to a weaned child.
    • How trusting God frees you from the pressure to prove yourself.

If you've spent years wondering why you never feel like you're enough, this episode will help you discover the freedom that comes from trusting the God who is.

  • Why Do Good and Talented Men Bury Their Talent | Episode #060
    Jun 30 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Most people know comparison is wrong.

So why do we keep doing it?

Because comparison isn't the problem. It's the symptom.

In this episode, Craig uncovers the hidden reason good and talented men bury their gifts, avoid opportunities, and settle for less than God created them to become.

Craig shares a deeply personal story of how comparison caused him to hide his own talent—even skipping the message at two of his children's weddings because he believed what he prepared wasn't worth hearing.

But the real problem wasn't comparison.

It was the assumptions he'd stopped questioning.

If you've ever struggled with fear, perfectionism, procrastination, people-pleasing, or the feeling that you're simply not enough, this episode will help you discover what's happening beneath the surface—and how God's truth sets you free.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Why comparison is a symptom, not the real problem.
    • The hidden assumptions that give shame its power.
    • Why fear causes good and talented people to bury their gifts.
    • The difference between living by comparison and living by revelation.
    • How to identify the assumptions that have been shaping your life.
    • Why God never asked you to become a five-talent servant—only a faithful one.

    Key Quote

"The greatest lies are the assumptions you've stopped questioning."

    Scriptures

    • Matthew 25:14–30 – The Parable of the Talents
    • Ephesians 2:10
    • 2 Corinthians 10:12

If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to hear it.

If you're ready to overcome shame and self-doubt so you can become the husband, father, and leader God created you to be, I'd love to help.

    Time Stamps

0:00 There is a hidden reason that keeps good and talented men from succeeding

0:58 Why comparison has so much power

1:20 Comparison caused me to hide my talent, and I wasn't even aware I was doing it

    1:28 My embarrassing story

    2:27 It wasn't that I thought I wasn't a good speaker. I thought I wasn't good enough.

3:10 The question that changed my life

3:51 Asking me to see why I was burying my talent was like asking a fish to see water

    4:26 I thought God's grace wasn't enough for me

4:46 The greatest lies are the ones you've stopped questioning. They've become your reality.

5:02 Assumptions are born out of shame, and shame is hard to see. Shame hides.

5:40 If you want to see the lie, you must get out of your natural environment and into the spiritual.

6:02 Your natural environment is where comparison lives.

6:23 The natural world tells you who you ara by comparison. The spiritual tells you who you are by revelation

6:37 Comparison is shame's desperate search for significance. Comparison is asking the life of another to answer the questions only God can answer

6:56 The natural is where you learn you are not enough

7:22 The spiritual is where you discover you really are enough by God's grace

7:58 When you see who the Spirit says you are. You won't worry that you are not a five-talent servant

8:18 My challenge to you: What assumptions have you made about yourself and stopped questioning?

9:42 Stop burying your talent. Stop measuring your life against another's. Rest in God's love and rely on God's grace, and do all that God created you to do.

  • You've Got Talent | Episode #059
    Jun 23 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of the Truly a Masterpiece Podcast, Craig explores one of Jesus' most challenging and encouraging teachings: the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30).

Many people assume this parable is primarily about abilities, skills, or financial stewardship. While those ideas are certainly present, Jesus is revealing something much deeper.

The parable exposes how comparison fuels fear, how fear leads to inaction, and how a distorted view of God can keep us from doing what He created us to do.

Craig explains why the third servant's greatest problem wasn't a lack of talent—it was a lack of trust.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why God gives different assignments to different people
    • The danger of comparing your gifts to someone else's
    • How fear causes people to bury opportunities
    • Why faithfulness matters more than results
    • What it means to invest your life for the Master
    • How to overcome self-doubt and take the next step of faith

If you've ever felt inadequate, overlooked, or tempted to sit on the sidelines because you believe someone else is more gifted than you, this episode will encourage you.

God doesn't expect you to be someone else.

He simply asks you to faithfully invest what He has entrusted to you.

Because the goal isn't to become a five-talent servant.

The goal is to become a faithful servant.

    Time Stamps:

2:12 Three servants: Two faithful and one fearful

    3:21 Four insights about fear

3:24 Fear will rob you of your potential

3:53 Fear is fueled by comparison

4:48 Comparison caused one servant to focus not on the talent he had, but on what others had

5:25 Comparison is the act of asking another person's life to answer questions only God can answer

5:58 Comparison doesn't create confidence. It fuels fear

    6:03 Fear disguises itself

6:29 Illogical logic: You are a harsh man... I did nothing.

6:51 The servant wasn't afraid of what he thought he was afraid of

    7:13 How to process fear

7:32 What you think you are afraid of is probably not what you are afraid of

    7:46 Fear cannot survive a servant's mindset

7:56 My fear of public speaking

11:08 What I was really afraid of

11:29 The goal of the Christian life isn't to be a five-talent servant. The goal is to be a faithful servant

11:39 The master (God) never compared anyone. I did.

12:30 The mindset of a servant explained

    12:42 Rest in God's love

13:33 Isaiah 49:4 Jesus is our model

    14:36 Rely on God's grace

  • The Real Enemy Wasn't Alcohol | With Mark Roundy | Episode #058

In this episode of the Truly a Masterpiece Podcast, Craig sits down with his longtime friend Mark Roundy—a husband, father, fisherman, and faithful follower of Christ—for an honest conversation about addiction, recovery, shame, self-doubt, and the grace of God.

Mark shares his struggle with alcohol, what finally got his attention, and the journey that led him to sobriety. But as powerful as his story of recovery is, Mark explains that alcohol wasn't the deepest issue. Beneath the addiction was a battle with shame, self-doubt, and the lies he believed about himself.

Along the way, Craig and Mark discuss:

    • The unlikely friendship that began with a chance meeting at a boat ramp

    • Why so many men stay away from church

    • Common lies men believe about themselves

    • Why surrender is so difficult for men

    • The importance of authentic male friendships

    • How shame and self-doubt keep men stuck

    • Why many men stop dreaming—and how to begin dreaming again

  • The Real Reason Negative Thoughts Feel So Powerful: And How to Change Them | Episode #057
    Jun 9 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Why can one word of criticism ruin your whole day while ten words of encouragement barely make a dent?

Why does rejection linger in your mind? Why do mistakes seem louder than success?

In this episode of the Truly a Masterpiece Podcast, Craig explores the surprising reason negative thoughts carry so much power. Psychology tells us what it is, the Scriptures tell us why it is, and how to change it.

    You'll discover:

    • Why negative thoughts often feel more believable than positive ones
    • How shame fuels the negativity bias
    • Why positive thinking alone isn't enough
    • Why salvation creates capacity but it requires renewing the mind to develop competency
    • A simple four-step process to overcome destructive thinking

Most importantly, you'll learn that the goal isn't simply eliminating negative thoughts. The goal is learning to think in partnership with God.

As your understanding of God's love grows, your problems may not get smaller—but you will get bigger... You plus God is enough for whatever you face.

  • Don't Let Resentment Ruin a Relationship | Episode #056
    Jun 2 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Resentment can quietly destroy a relationship—even when love is still present.

In this episode, Craig explores why resentment is often much deeper than the situation that triggered it. Beneath irritation, tension, and emotional withdrawal is usually something unresolved in the heart: insecurity, fear, disappointment, unbelief, or an identity wound.

Through the story of “John and Angela,” Craig shows why trying harder to “not feel or act resentful” doesn’t work—and how true freedom comes through honesty, trust in God, renewing the mind, and discovering the truth that sets you free.

This is not just a conversation about relationships.
It’s a conversation about identity, freedom, peace, joy, and learning to trust God with the deeper places of your heart.

    In this episode:
    • Why resentment is an identity issue

    • Why suppressing resentment never heals it

    • The difference between confessing the symptom and confessing the root

    • How resentment often exposes deeper unmet needs and beliefs

You don't have to sacrifice freedom, peace, and joy on the altar of love.
