      Greetings, and welcome back to the podcast.

      This episode we are joined by Mr.Don Simmons - CEO of Hemisphere Energy - a TSX listed energy company with a market cap of ~$200 million.

      Mr. Simmons has extensive experience in petroleum geology and a proven track record of discovering oil and gas in Western Canada and internationally. He became President and Chief Executive Officer in February 2008.

      Prior to joining Hemisphere, Mr. Simmons was a Geologist at Sebring Energy, private oil and gas company, and before that he spent five years with EnCana (now Ovintiv) working on various projects in southeast Alberta and Ecuador.

      Mr. Simmons holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences from Queen's University and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.

    • #260: Hon. Stockwell Day - Lowering Taxes, Cutting Debt & 50 Years of Politics

      Greetings, and welcome back to the podcast.

      Stockwell Day was successfully elected nine times over 25 years at two levels of government and in two separate provinces. From 1986 to 2000, he served in the Alberta Legislature as Government House Leader, Minister of Labour, Minister of Social Services and Minister of Finance.

      In 2000 Stockwell Day won the leadership of the Canadian Alliance and became Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition. In the general election that followed soon after, the Canadian Alliance increased the number of Official Opposition seats in the House of Commons and increased its popular vote by over a million people.

      In 2002, he was appointed Foreign Affairs critic, as well as Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights. In 2003 the Canadian Alliance and the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada merged to become the Conservative Party of Canada. In 2006 Stockwell Day was appointed Minister of Public Safety and to the Cabinet Committee on Priorities and Planning.

      Upon his re-election in 2008, he was appointed Minister of International Trade, Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Afghanistan. In 2010 Stockwell Day was appointed President of the Treasury Board. He did not seek re-election in the 2011 general election.

      He operates a consulting agency, Stockwell Day Connex Ltd., serving clients and organizations globally in the private and public domain. He is a regular media commentator and speaker, known nationally and internationally.

      Stockwell enjoys marathon running and ocean kayaking. He and his wife Valorie have 3 married sons and 14 grandchildren.

      Greetings, and welcome back to the podcast.

      This episode we are joined by Heather Exner-Pirot - Senior Fellow and Director of Energy, Natural Resources and Environment at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, Special Advisor to the Business Council of Canada, Research Advisor to the Indigenous Resource Network, and Global Fellow at the Wilson Centre in Washington D.C.

      She has twenty years of experience in Indigenous, Arctic and resource development and governance.

      She has published on Indigenous economic development, resource politics and policy, energy security, Arctic human security, regional Arctic governance and the Arctic Council, Arctic innovation, First Nations equity and own source revenues, and more. She obtained a PhD in Political Science from the University of Calgary in 2011.

      Exner-Pirot sits on the boards of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Economic Development Network and the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation. She is a member of the Canadian Defence and Security Network and a Network Coordinator at the North American and Arctic Defense and Security Network. She is the Managing Editor of the Arctic Yearbook (an international, peer-reviewed annual volume), a member of Yukon's Arctic Security Advisory Council, and the former Chair of the Canadian Northern Studies Trust.

      She has published over 45 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and edited volumes, and presented at over 100 conferences and events nationally and internationally, in addition to authoring dozens of op-eds in Canada’s top publications.

      She currently lives near Calgary with her husband and two children.
