In this second bonus episode of Too Sober For This, Shell and Iain are back for another wee blether, because apparently one bonus episode wasn't enough.

Once again, there's no real plan. They catch up on everything that's happened since they last recorded, including Edinburgh Fringe, five years of sobriety for Shell, new sofas, financial milestones, work, relationships, future travel plans and the increasingly complicated logistics of being two people who apparently cannot stop over-scheduling themselves.

From Edinburgh Fringe and comedy to money, recovery and building a life from scratch, this conversation gets into what happens when the things you once thought were impossible slowly become your actual life.

They talk about the weird pride that comes with being able to buy things with money you've earned from doing something you love, the recovery milestones that aren't always obvious to other people, and why having savings, good credit and being trusted with other people's money can feel like a genuinely massive deal when your relationship with money has previously been... complicated.

In this episode:

• Iain's time at Edinburgh Fringe, performing 25 days in a row and losing his voice
• What it feels like when your creative work actually starts paying for your life
• Recovery milestones that have nothing to do with years sober
• Money, credit, savings and learning to live without instant gratification
• Vulnerability, storytelling and knowing the difference between sharing and oversharing
• Trauma bonding, trauma dumping and the human need for connection
• Relationships, independence and the sacrifices that come with following your dreams
• What's coming next for both of them, including Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines
• Updates on season two of Too Sober For This and season four of We Recover Loudly

There is also chat on early Christmas decorations, IKEA relationship counselling, Scottish weather, cheese-based dating advice, accidental geography lessons, black pepper, Filipino adventures, and several moments where the conversation goes so far off track that neither of them has any idea how they got there.

But as always there is a the serious conversation underneath all the laughter about community, connection, vulnerability and what it means to turn recovery into an actual life rather than just surviving one day at a time.

So grab a cuppa, settle in and join Shell and Iain for another A Wee Blether while we wait for Season Two.

In this bonus 'Between Seasons' episode of Too Sober For This, Shell and Iain are doing exactly what they said they would: having a wee blether.

With no script, no guest and absolutely no plan, they catch up on everything that's happened since Season One wrapped. From new jobs, house moves and Edinburgh Fringe preparations to meal replacement shakes, cheese shops and suspiciously explosive malt loaf, this is a proper conversation between two friends navigating recovery, work and life.

Along the way, they end up talking about something much bigger: how recovery changes the way you approach friendship, why protecting your peace sometimes means slowing down, and how easy it is to chase shortcuts instead of genuine connection. They also get into AI, loneliness, creativity, showing up for the people you love, and why community still matters more than ever.

In this episode:

• Why recovery has changed the way they think about friendship and connection
• Learning to protect your peace instead of constantly chasing chaos
• House moves, Edinburgh Fringe, cheese shops and birthday fundraisers
• The temptation of AI versus the value of real human collaboration
• Loneliness, social media and making the first move in friendships
• Starting creative projects even when they're terrifying
• Lottery wins worth £2.40 and why Shell still thinks she's manifesting millions
• Dogs, vet bills, meal replacement shakes and the usual completely unnecessary tangents

As always, there are chaotic introductions, terrible timing, Scottish life lessons, recovery reflections, comedy gossip, cheese appreciation, emotional support dogs, Edinburgh excitement, accidental philosophy, and enough random diversions to make you forget this episode was never supposed to have a topic in the first place.

So grab a cuppa, settle in, and join us for a wee blether while we wait for Season Two.

And if you enjoy the episode, don't forget to follow the podcast, leave us a review, and share it with someone who loves a good conversation!

In this season finale of Too Sober For This, Shell and Iain are looking back on the first season of the podcast: what they’ve learned, what surprised them, and the conversations that stayed with them.

From recovery, relationships and body image to self-talk, identity, friendship and finding peace in your own head, this season has been a smorgasbord of incredible conversations. There’s been lot about accountability, changing the way you speak to yourself, and the uncomfortable reality that healing is often your responsibility, even when the damage wasn’t your fault.

Shell and Iain also talk about the pressure to constantly improve yourself, the weirdness of modern wellness culture, sobriety as a long-term relationship with yourself, and why they both feel increasingly suspicious of anything society suddenly decides is “healthy”, “aspirational” or “the right way to be”.

In this episode:

• The reality of building something creative without instant gratification
• How recovery changes your friendships, relationships and sense of self
• The exhausting pressure to constantly optimise, heal or “fix” yourself
• Body image, chronic illness, wellness culture and learning to exist outside trends
• The difference between blaming your past and taking responsibility for your future
• Why the voice in your head matters more than almost anything else
• Why peace and serenity can feel unfamiliar when you’ve spent years surviving chaos
• What they’ve learned from 12 weeks of difficult, funny and unexpectedly honest conversations

As always, there are also sober w4nker wins, podcast statistics, celebrity gossip, gay agendas, emotional support tea cakes, arguments about black pepper, merch dreams, chaotic tangents, and ongoing proof that sobriety does not automatically turn you into a calm or emotionally regulated person.

Thank you for listening to Season One of Too Sober For This. Honestly, we didn’t expect this many people to care and we definitely didn’t expect over 500 downloads, people messaging us about the episodes, or to still be sitting here 12 weeks later with matching mugs!

Listen now on all podcast platforms, and let us know: what conversations from this season stayed with you the most?
