Why is America cheering for Lindsay Clancy? As the Lindsay Clancy trial nears a verdict, supporters are rallying behind the Massachusetts mother who killed her three young children—Cora Clancy, Dawson Clancy, and Callan Clancy. The case has ignited a national debate over postpartum psychosis, mental illness, criminal responsibility, justice, motherhood, and accountability. Was Lindsay Clancy suffering from postpartum psychosis that left her not criminally responsible for her actions? Did the medical system fail her? Or are we allowing compassion for mental illness to erase personal responsibility for horrific acts?
