On this podcast we chat with small shepherding homesteaders, professional sheep dairies, cheesemakers, experts in Agriculture, artisanal l butchers, and even a few fiber artists, to help you learn how to best care for your dairy sheep. Hosted by Rachel Hester, author of 'The Guide to Homestead Dairy Sheep,' - the only book currently in print on the topic of raising sheep for dairy purposes - this podcast seeks to bring more resources to the Dairy Sheep community. Our goal is to have something for everyone as long is it pertains to dairy sheep. We want to help YOU feel more confident diving into sheep for milk. We highlight different breeds for milking - both dairy specific and traditional heritage breeds - and talk about when you would want to pick one over the other. On this show we want to help you start to finish - from lambing, to milking, to cheesemaking. We also cover ethical harvesting of access or retired animals, delicious recipes for the meat, and what to do with all that wool (as there are currently no hair dairy breeds of sheep). So whether you are just trying to decide what species to add to your operation next, or knee deep in shepherding and desperately needing someone to come alongside you, we hope you'll join us as we dive into all things pertaining to raising sheep for milk!
