SPEAKING IN TONGUES: THE EVIDENCE OF BEING BORN OF THE SPIRIT

Is speaking in tongues just one of many gifts—or is it the biblical evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit?
In this episode, Pastor Jacob Jones of River City Pentecostals (Decatur, AL) presents a clear, Scripture-based case that speaking in tongues is the consistent, visible evidence of being born of the Spirit, just as Jesus described in John 3.

This teaching isn’t based on tradition—it’s grounded in the pattern found throughout the Book of Acts, and in the words of Jesus Himself.

      🔹 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

      • What does it mean to be born of the Spirit?

      • Did Jesus or the apostles ever teach a silent, internal Spirit baptism?

      • What happened in Acts 2, 8, 10, and 19—and what does it teach us?

      • Why speaking in tongues was never described as optional or rare

      📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
      John 3:5–8
      Acts 2:1–4
      Acts 8:14–17
      Acts 10:44–48
      Acts 19:1–6
      Mark 16:17
      Isaiah 28:11

    • Acts IS Profitable for Doctrine
      May 28 2025

Is the Book of Acts just a history book—or is it profitable for doctrine?
In this episode, Pastor Jacob Jones of River City Pentecostals (Decatur, AL) challenges the claim that the Book of Acts should not be used to establish doctrine because it’s “only narrative.” This argument is often used to dismiss the clear salvation pattern found in Acts 2:38 and throughout the early church.

But if we disqualify Acts for being narrative, we’d also have to reject most of the Old Testament, the Gospels, and large portions of Paul’s letters that contain narrative elements. That’s not just inconsistent—it’s unbiblical.

Pastor Jones defends the authority of Acts as Spirit-inspired Scripture—as doctrinally sound, theologically rich, and absolutely essential to understanding the New Testament church.

      🔹 Key Topics Covered:
✅ What does it mean that all Scripture is inspired and profitable?
✅ Why Acts is more than just history—it's Spirit-led precedent
✅ How Acts shows us the correct application of Jesus’ teachings
✅ What happens when we dismiss entire sections of the Bible for convenience

      📖 Scripture References:

2 Timothy 3:16 – All Scripture is profitable for doctrine
Luke 24:45–47 – The Gospel should begin at Jerusalem
Acts 1:8 – Power and witness starting in Jerusalem
Acts 2:1–4 – The outpouring of the Holy Spirit
      Acts 2:38 – Peter’s doctrine on salvation
Acts 10, 19 – Repeated patterns of Spirit baptism and water baptism
Deuteronomy 6:4, Psalm 119, and others – Narrative books that contain doctrine

    • One Mediator - 1 Timothy 2:5
      May 24 2025

Who is the "one mediator" between God and man—just a man, just God, or something else entirely?

In this episode, Pastor Jacob Jones of River City Pentecostals (Decatur, AL) dives deep into 1 Timothy 2:5, where Paul writes, *“There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”*

Many misunderstand this verse and fall into one of three heresies:

❌ Saying Christ is only man and not God

❌ Saying Christ is only God and not man

❌ Claiming "God the Son" was manifested in Jesus' flesh—creating two mediators: a divine one and a human one

Pastor Jones carefully walks through Scripture to show how the Oneness view of Jesus Christ maintains both His full deity and full humanity in perfect unity. Jesus is not a second person in a Trinity—but the one God, manifested in flesh for our redemption.

      🔹 Key Topics Covered:

✅ What does “the man Christ Jesus” actually mean?

✅ Why is Jesus the *only* mediator?

✅ How does the Oneness view preserve the biblical understanding of God’s nature?

✅ Why the Trinitarian model creates a second mediator

✅ How denying either Christ’s deity or humanity is heresy

      📖 Scripture References:

1 Timothy 2:5 – One mediator: the man Christ Jesus

1 Timothy 3:16 – God was manifest in the flesh

Colossians 2:8–9 – The fullness of deity dwells bodily in Christ

John 1:1 – The Word was God

2 Corinthians 4:6 – The glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ

John 14:6 – No one comes to the Father except through Me

John 14:9 – He who has seen Me has seen the Father

2 Corinthians 5:19 – God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself
