  • South Dakota Weather March 4 Evening - Cloudy
    Mar 5 2026
Good evening. South Dakota. I'm Aaron Jolly. Right now, we're sitting at a comfortable 44 degrees under clear skies. But that's just the opening act. Tomorrow brings a wild preview of spring. Highs are going to soar into the 60s and even the 70s. That's running about 25 degrees warmer than usual for early March. In the next 24 hours. Tonight, the state stays mostly mild. Eastern South Dakota drops to 34 degrees. And you might see some patchy fog develop after 3 A.M. Central South Dakota also settles near 34 under clear skies. Out west, you're looking at 35 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Thursday tells a completely different story. Central South Dakota surges to 70 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Western South Dakota tops out at 72. Eastern South Dakota reaches 63 after the morning fog clears. Winds pick up everywhere, gusting 20 to 30 miles an hour by afternoon. But enjoy it while you can. A storm system crashes in Thursday night. Eastern South Dakota sees rain developing late. Western and Central South Dakota get a messy rain-snow mix. By Friday, temperatures crash. Central South Dakota drops to 38 degrees with 1 to 3 inches of snow possible. Western South Dakota holds at 43, but gusts howl to 40 miles an hour. Eastern South Dakota stays mild at 57 but deals with steady rain. The weekend recovers nicely. Saturday brings sunshine statewide with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Sunday warms back into the 60s. One more thing — tonight's full moon rises at sunset. With clear skies early, it will be a beauty. We're also gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight each day now. Spring equinox sits just two weeks away. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.

  • South Dakota Weather March 4 Morning - 20° Above Normal
    Mar 4 2026
Good morning. South Dakota. I'm Aaron Jolly. That gray blanket outside your window? Dense fog has settled across eastern South Dakota overnight. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less in spots from Watertown to Sisseton. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until noon, so give yourself extra time on the roads this morning. In the next 24 hours. But here's the payoff. Once that fog burns off, we're looking at temperatures running about 20 degrees above normal for early March. Eastern South Dakota climbs to 56 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Head west and it gets even warmer. Central South Dakota hits 67 degrees with sunshine. Out in the Black Hills region? You're looking at a stunning 68 degrees. Tonight stays mild with lows around 34 to 39 degrees. Patchy fog may redevelop toward morning. And if the clouds break, catch the full moon rising. Thursday gives us one more warm day with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Then everything changes. A storm system arrives Thursday night. Rain spreads across the state, with a few thunderstorms possible in the southeast. As colder air sweeps in Friday, that rain transitions to snow. Highs Friday drop into the upper 30s and 40s. Some light accumulation is possible Friday night, especially in central and western areas. The weekend recovers nicely. Saturday brings sunshine and highs in the low 50s. Sunday warms back into the low to mid 60s. Monday could touch 70 degrees in some spots. Another system brings rain and snow chances by Tuesday, with highs cooling back into the 40s. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. Spring equinox sits just two weeks away. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.

  • South Dakota Weather March 3 Evening - 20° Above Normal
    Mar 4 2026
Good evening. South Dakota. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel something rare for early March. Thirty five degrees under crystal clear skies. Quiet. Calm. Almost suspiciously pleasant. That's a ridge of high pressure parked right over us, keeping everything stable tonight. In the next 24 hours. Lows dip to the upper 20s across central South Dakota. Low 30s elsewhere. Nothing dramatic. But if you're an early riser in the eastern counties, watch for patchy fog developing after 2 A.M. That morning commute could get a little hazy. Now. Wednesday is the headliner. A southerly wind cranks up, pulling warm air straight out of the plains. Highs soar into the upper 60s out west. Mid 50s east. That's 20 degrees above normal, folks. Gusts hit 25 miles an hour by afternoon, but honestly, who cares when it feels like April? Thursday keeps the party going. Upper 60s statewide under partly sunny skies. Then the plot twist arrives Thursday night. A Colorado low starts tracking northeast. And rain spreads across eastern counties. Thunderstorms are even possible before midnight. Lows hold in the low 40s east, upper 20s west. Friday gets messy. Rain through the morning transitions to a wintry mix by afternoon. Eastern South Dakota takes the worst of it. Rain changing to snow by evening with northeast gusts hitting 30 miles an hour. That raw, damp cold that cuts through everything. Western counties see snow earlier but light. Under an inch. By Friday night, it's all snow statewide before tapering off. The weekend bounces back fast. Saturday clears out with sunshine and low 50s. Sunday pushes into the low 60s. Early next week? Upper 60s Monday before another rain chance rolls in Tuesday. Charge your phone, enjoy tomorrow's warmth. And save your snow complaints for Friday. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
