Trump made an address at the UN General Assembly which many nations found opposed to the spirit of the UN- last year he called climate change a scam. UN investigators say that there are reasonable grounds to believe the US committed war crimes in Iran. The Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also delivered a speech at the UN in response to Trump’s speech the day before. France, Germany, and other European countries are increasing young recruits into their military systems. From GERMANY- There are upheavals in German elections, with another far-right victory in the eastern part of the country and a far-left victory in Berlin. On the last day of elections in Moscow Ukraine hit the city with the largest ever drone attack, including setting fire to the largest oil refinery- this year Ukraine has successfully attacked a Russian oil refinery every third day on average. Israeli PM Netanyahu has gone after the award winning Israeli directors of a documentary called Naza about systematic killings in Gaza- Netanyahu says he will revoke their citizenship. The OSCE, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which monitors elections around the world, has not been invited to the US midterm elections this November. From FRANCE- At his UN speech, Trump claimed that Cuba will fall, prompting the Cuban delegation to walk out. The Cuban Foreign Minister responded. From CUBA- The power outages in Cuba as a result of US sanctions kept RHC down most of the past week. Israeli drone attacks in Gaza continued this week, killing more civilians. Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and champion of womens rights, has withdrawn her candidacy to become the next secretary-general of the UN. The ICE deportation of Haitians has continued with a fourth flight. Trump says that Canada will come and apologize and remove their retaliatory tariffs. An interview with Lawrence Herman, an international trade lawyer from Canada. He says Canada will not come back and say they are sorry. Canada sends about 70% of its exports to the US but many of the materials and components in those products are from US sources- thus an economic slowdown in the states. Canada has been cementing new trade relations with the European Union. Lawrence says Canada will not become a member of the EU as was recently speculated. He says trade with the US will not end, but there will be many difficulties until Trump leaves office. From JAPAN- Tokyo experienced a record breaking 31 consecutive days of rain. Japan continues to run nuclear power plants but has no place to permanently store the waste. Trump says that South Korea is investing in 8 new nuclear power plants in the US as well as an LPG pipeline in Alaska- South Korea denies agreeing to the pipeline. At the UN General Assembly North Korea insisted on its right to remain a nuclear armed state. UN Secretary General Guterres is concerned over the lack of progress in nuclear disarmament. Also at the UN the Nepalese PM blamed the devastating floods on global warming which his country is not responsible for. From CUBA- Last weekend at the UN, the Cuban FM denounced multi-dimension hostilities from the US. On Tuesday the US issued new regulations and sanctions to further strangle the nation and people of Cuba. China reaffirmed its strong support for Cuba. British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband addressed critics of the Labour policy on the plight of Palestinians and announced sanctions on Israeli settlements- Ed however failed to support those charged with terrorism for carrying signs expressing support for Palestine Action.     http://youthspeaksout.net/swr261009.mp3 (29:00) From JAPAN- A robot arm will begin surveying the 880 tons of nuclear fuel debris in the reactors at the Fukushima nuclear power plant which melted down in 2011- they are hoping to begin cleaning the waste in 2037. The Trump administration is looking to expand nuclear power in the US, including restarting the plant at 3-mile island, site of the worst nuclear accident in US history. Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez has called for a snap election on November 29th as a response to unrest over skyrocketing housing prices. There will be a runoff vote in Brazil on October 25th between Lula da Silva and Flavio Bolsonaro. From FRANCE- More on the Brazilian election where Lula and others are complaining about US interference in the electoral process. Then a series of press reviews on the massive student protests in France this week. An estimated 266,000 high school students marched in the streets and were met with increasing clashes with police. The main objective was to update dilapidated school buildings especially in poorer areas, more staff, and to limit class sizes to 36. By Thursday parents and union members had joined the demonstrations to protect the students- In Spain and Belgium students have also begun protests. An editorial on where the students rage comes from. The question of whether Netanyahu and the Israeli state were told of the Hamas plans to attack 10 days in advance and did nothing to prepare for the horrible massacre on October 7th. From CUBA- The US Coast Guard intercepted an oil tanker in the Caribbean trying to bring fuel to Cuba. The lack of fuel continues to plague all aspects of life in Cuba, including its ability to broadcast their news. The Mexican ruling Morena party stated it will maintain support for the Cuban people in the face of the energy blockade imposed by the US- Mexican President Sheinbaum spoke out at the UN General Assembly expressing solidarity with Cuba. President Sheinbaum also warned about the presence of right-wing groups within the US administration which intend to change the government of Mexico. Police in the UK arrested 6 people in the area of a Royal Air Force Base that had been used by the US military to bomb Iran, implying that they were terrorists, then let them out on bail. One of the side effects of the heat waves that are sweeping through Europe is the melting of the Alpine glaciers that are essential for drinking water, farming, and hydroelectric power plants. River beds in much of France have gone completely dry and efforts are being made to preserve the fish. Press reviews on a United Nations report that since the so-called ceasefire in Gaza, an average of one young Palestinian has been killed every day by Israeli forces. The US launched a major attack on Iran on Wednesday and Thursday, taking out civilian infrastructure, air defense systems and nearly hitting a nuclear power plant. Trump railed again that Greenland should belong to the US despite the people living there being strongly opposed to the idea. From JAPAN- Indian President Modi is visiting Australia to deepen ties on economics, security, and defense- including exports of uranium to India. Hamas says it has dissolved its government in Gaza. Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank is expanding, with 103 new settlements approved by the Israeli government, with another 100 coming soon- NHK spoke with settlers and with the Palestinians being moved out. From CUBA- The US government was unsuccessful at blocking a debate at the UN on the effect its economic and energy blockades against Cuba- Cuba said there is no evidence that it is planning an attack on the US. Iran says it fired missiles on a Qatari and Saudi ships in the strait of Hormuz because they were avoiding the Iranian controlled waters. Belgium is preparing to recognize the state of Palestine, joining 157 other countries that already consider it a sovereign state. The journal Nature published research warning that climate change threatens 30% of edible and medicinal plants used by indigenous people in the Amazon. Last month was the hottest ever recorded in western Europe. On Wednesday the US continued destroying infrastructure in Iran, with Trump threatening war crimes next week. Rescuers in Venezuela are still finding some survivors from the earthquakes, but the known death toll is over 4500. From FRANCE- Excerpts from a report and analysis of a NYT story that Marco Rubio is running Venezuela, becoming the de facto Viceroy of the country. France 24 spoke with Frasier Jackson and Christopher Sabatini about the effect this is having on the country and what the US is doing with the $8 billion it received for selling its petroleum. From CUBA- The US added 10 new sanctions to the list making life even harder in Cuba. The Cuban FM Rodriguez met with the UN Secretary General Guterres at the UN General Assembly debate on ending the US embargoes on Cuba. Mexican President Sheinbaum called for criminal investigations into the deaths of 17 Mexicans in the US during the ICE crackdown. Israel has continued heavy bombing in Lebanon. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced new plans to dismantle the International Criminal Court. A hectare is about 2.5 acres and 40 degrees centigrade is 104 fahrenheit. First a brief summary of the situation in France and Spain. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez directly blamed human induced global warming for the climate emergency. Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated. An excerpts of an interview with Jan-Phillip Scholz a correspondent in Valencia Spain. Then excerpts of an interview with Stephan Pyne, an American fire historian. He discusses whether these fires are unprecedented and as climate change worsens will the fires get worse. He argues that humanity has created a new age of fire, a pyrocene era. He points out how we could mitigate the increasing danger, mainly to stop warming the planet and how we are living on the land. Much of the world that is burning now has always been in fire prone areas. He talks about the living nature of fire. From FRANCE- Last week I covered the huge confrontation by east Indian youth who call themselves the Cockroach movement- they have called a truce after the minister of education resigned. Trump pardoned former rightwing president Juan Orlando Hernandez in December for allowing shipments of 400 tons of cocaine to the US- he returned to Honduras this week. The death toll in Venezuela from massive earthquakes a month ago has risen to 5500, with many thousands of people unaccounted for. From CUBA- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel thanked the Mexican people for their support of Cuba as it struggles under US blockades and sanctions. In the occupied West Bank Israeli settlers torched 2 mosques during recent attacks which included the detention of 70 and the killing of 4 Palestinians. The US House of Representatives passed a $1.5 trillion budget for the Department of War- the bill includes a permanent integration of the US and Israeli militaries defense technologies and future defense cooperation. Stephen Kinsella is a former EU antitrust lawyer and a founding member of Patriotic Millionaires UK. The report talks about the level of poverty in the UK and how a the tax would be a huge boost to social services and not actually cause a loss of assets for the wealthiest- who would never be able to spend all their money in the lifetimes anyway. From FRANCE- Greenland issued a warning to a US oil company to not drill on its territory after they already unloaded drilling equipment onshore. The Texas based company connected to Donald Trump had purchased the rights from a UK company called 80 Mile- they had obtained the drilling license before the Greenland government stopped issuing them in 2021. In an interview with Lukas Wahden from George Washington University, Trumps motives in Greenland are also discussed. The new right-wing Colombian president Abelardo Gabriel de la Espriella was sworn in, promising a crackdown on armed cocaine producing guerrillas with the assistance of the US and Israeli militaries. From CUBA- The new Colombian president Abelardo de la Espriella has joined the US as the only two countries recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, a Syrian territory. A retired Israeli General says Gaza should remain destroyed for generations, and that Israel should retain the Yellow Line which marks the military territory. China has called on the US not to slander relations between countries, and reiterated its support of Cuban self-defense. From JAPAN- The Japanese PM spoke with the Iranian president on the Hormuz situation and the Houthi vessel attacks in Yemen. Trump wrote an executive order placing a new 15 percent tariff on polysilicon products such as solar panels. Ukraine continues to attack oil refineries in Russia with subsequent unburned carbon pouring into the atmosphere, along with human collateral deaths. Leela Jacinto talks about the geology of the region and the melting glaciers that triggered the events- glaciers are melting at record levels around the planet, largely a result of climate warming. Parts of Central America are experiencing extreme drought, exacerbated by the changing weather patterns brought on by an unusual El Nino. Noga Tarnopolsky talks about how the upcoming Israeli elections are influencing extremist settler attacks in the occupied West Bank- also Israeli Minister of National Security Ben-Gvir called for the wanton killing of 30-40 Palestinians each night in Gaza to raise the level of terror and keep Netanyahu in power. From JAPAN- The Japanese government says it supports International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane after the US announced sanctions against her- a group of Parliamentarians condemned the move by Donald Trump. The UN and the IIRC are urging countries to regulate lethal autonomous AI weapon systems. Parts of Japan have been experiencing extreme heat. China and other countries expressed displeasure after the US said it would ratchet up its sanctions on anyone doing business with Iran. From CUBA- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez condemned the new one year extension of the US blockade on the island- more than 7000 cargo containers with international aid remain stranded in Caribbean ports in fear of the US sanctions. The Pentagon announced that it has renewed its strikes on boats in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean allegedly transporting drugs to the US- at least 223 people have been killed in the bombings- the US DEA says the killings have had no effect on supplies of cocaine in the US. The UN, Canada, and Australia said it was shameful that Israel will not investigate the killing of a convoy from the World Food Kitchen in Gaza- 186 aid workers were killed last year in Gaza. While the US is actively deporting permitted Haitians to the island, scores of civilians are being killed by gangs.
