They say you can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your relatives—and never was that truer than in Shadow of a Doubt.

This week on The Shiver Show, we present the classic 1944 Lux Radio Theater production, performed live before a studio audience. Based on Alfred Hitchcock’s acclaimed 1943 film, this crisp, captivating suspense drama stars William Powell as the smarmy Uncle Charlie and Teresa Wright reprising her screen role as young Charlotte ("Charlie").

After the radio drama, stick around as co-hosts Mary and Greg dive into the dark side of family dynamics! They’ll discuss the classic "creepy uncle" trope in literature and film, and compare this live radio broadcast with the original feature film (which starred Joseph Cotten alongside Teresa Wright).

The Veldt is a science fiction thriller, adapted for radio, based on a short story by Ray Bradbury. The story originally appeared in The Saturday Evening Post, in 1950, under the title, 'The World the Children Made' and republished later in the 1951 anthology The Illustrated Man.

Bradbury foresaw the smart home, subscription-based streaming services, and virtual reality. He also predicted that parents would let their children watch whatever the heck they wanted. Sound familiar?
