  • Tapes... But They're Not So Big (MAN FINDS TAPE [2025])
    Dec 31 2025
December has been a month of upheaval here at Scary Stuff, on top of Oddity Prodigy Productions projects keeping us very busy, but we're glad we were able to record one more episode before the year ended. We're foregoing the usual Christmas-centric episode this December for one very special reason: the Rustic Signal has been lit once more! From writer/directors Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman, we're ending 2025 by reviewing their new release MAN FINDS TAPE! To say we're thankful we get to close out the year by reviewing a found-footage cosmic horror movie is quite an understatement. The movie's available for rental or purchase on all major streaming platforms, and we absolutely recommend giving it a watch before listening to the episode. We also mention a Kickstarter campaign at the start of this episode called HORROR NOT HATE from author J.M. Brandt. More details can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/slowfeetcomics/horror-not-hate If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: http://www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!

  • In Memory of Keith Giffen (DR FATE [1987] feat. J.M. DeMatteis & TABOO [1988] feat. Brian Keene)
    Nov 17 2025
Since the Scary Stuff Podcast first started back in 2020, our love for the work of the late Keith Giffen has been mentioned time and time again. On the eve of the release of our prose superhero anthology WHERE LEGENDS WALK, which opens with a dedication to Keith, it felt like the right time to do an episode in memory of a creator whose work meant so much to us. For the first portion of this episode, we're joined by recurring pod guest (and brother of our host Jacob) Jeremiah Jones-Goldstein to discuss the 1987 DR. FATE mini-series from DC comics, pencilled by Keith Giffen and written by J.M. DeMatteis. Following that discussion, J.M. DeMatteis was kind enough to return to our podcast for an interview, talking about the 1987 mini and his memories of collaborating with Keith over many, many years. This portion begins at 01:05:48. Finally, we're delighted to be joined by first-time guest (but someone we've been hoping to chat with ever since the pod started) Brian Keene. In addition to chatting with us about his memories of Keith, we also discuss one of Keith's more horror-centric tales: "Chigger and the Man" from 1988's comic anthology TABOO. This portion begins at 02:00:45. We cannot thank our three guests enough for their time, and the resulting episode is really special to us. We very much hope you enjoy it. And as always, thanks so much for listening!

  • Who Goes There? (THE THING[s] feat. Jonathan Maberry)
    Nov 10 2025
Today's special guest is someone we've been hoping to chat with since we first launched our show at the start of 2020, as we've been fans of his work ever since our local bookseller Greg Schauer sang the praises of GHOST ROAD BLUES many years ago. With the latest release in his NECROTEK novel series from Blackstone Publishing recently released (as part of the Weird Tales Presents series), we're thrilled to welcome special guest Jonathan Maberry to the pod! Following his debut Pine Deep trilogy, Jonathan has written over fifty novels (including his long-running Joe Ledger thriller series), comics, had his series V-WARS adapted into a Netflix series, become a 5-time Bram Stoker Award-winner, 4-time Scribe Award winner and won an Inkpot Award. We're so delighted to chat a bit with Jonathan today about John Campbell's short story "Who Goes There?" (and its many cinematic adaptations), and the elements that inspired portions of his latest novel NECROTEK: COLD WAR. With this episode releasing around November 10th of 2025, we'd like to mention that Jonathan has an online masterclass WRITING AND SELLING SHORT STORIES coming up on November 22nd. Tickets for the three-hour class are $50, with all proceeds benefiting no-kill animal shelters and providing meals for school children. You can find more details on Jonathan's social media accounts, which are all listed on his Linktree account here: https://linktr.ee/jonathan_maberry If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: http://www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!

  • Streets of Ire (WEAPONS [2025] feat. Alex Segura)
    Nov 3 2025
After chatting THE ALIEN FACTOR with Trevor Henderson on our previous episode, we're delighted to welcome another previous pod guest back to the show: Alex Segura! Alex first appeared back on our pod on our MOON KNIGHT episode, a mini-series which we reviewed partly because some of the episodes were directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Appropriately enough, with Benson and Moorhead currently working on the DAREDEVIL - BORN AGAIN series, Alex returns to our pod with two Daredevil projects on the horizon. Marvel's Daredevil: The Illustrated History is out from Insight Editions in November 2025, and the prose novel Daredevil: The Enemy of my Enemy is coming in March of 2026. Alex has many, many projects in the works at the moment, but we'd particularly like to draw attention to the Patreon comic he has been co-writing with Sara Century: THE FORGOTTEN FIVE. As a Patron of the book, we've been greatly enjoying the series so far, and would appreciate any listeners who might consider supporting it at the Patreon link below: https://www.patreon.com/cw/TheForgottenFive If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: http://www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!

  • Forever in Blue Jeans (THE ALIEN FACTOR [1978] feat. Trevor Henderson)
    Oct 5 2025
Our host Jacob's novel THE LAST SUMMER, a tale of the Glawackus aka the "Northern Devil Cat," is now availabe from ESpec Books as part of their Systema Paradoxa series of cryptid tales. To celebrate, we're reviewing a movie similarly based on beastie's prowling the woodlands, albeit more extraterrestrial than terrestrial in this case. And Baltimore instead of Stanford. We're excited to review our first Don Dohler movie on the pod: his debut feature THE ALIEN FACTOR (1978)! And we're even more excited to welcome special guest TREVOR HENDERSON back to the show! It's always such a delight to chat with Trevor, but doubly-appropriate since his first appearance on our pod was another Baltimore-centric feature (BUTTERFLY KISSES). THE ALIEN FACTOR is currently streaming on Tubi as of this episode's release, and we absolutely encourage everyone to support Trevor by picking up one of the installments in his SCAREWAVES series from Scholastic, or visiting his InPrnt shop: https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/slimyswampghost/ If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: http://www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!

  • Ink That Deal (DESCENDENT [2025])
    Sep 9 2025
The Rustic Signal has been lit once more! After performing in front of the camera for RESOLUTION and THE ENDLESS, Peter Cilella now steps behind the camera for his feature film directorial debut DESCENDENT (2025)! We've been looking forward to more directorial work from Peter since we saw his short film OCCUPANT a few years back, so we were very excited to check this movie out. It was a blast to discuss, and we hope everyone enjoys our conversation. As usual, we get into spoilers pretty quickly in this review, so we absolutely encourage everyone to check out the movie first. It's currently available for purchase or rental on all major VOD platforms, and it absolutely deserves your support. Speaking of support, our Kickstarter for the superhero anthology WHERE LEGENDS WALK will have a few days remaining in its campaign when the episode goes up. If you miss the Kickstarter window, the book should be available for purchase soon, with a mid-November release date planned. You can find more details on the book/Kickstarter by visiting wherelegendswalk.com If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!

  • Do Not Profane the Patience of Sean (THE LIVING DEAD AT MANCHESTER MORGUE [1974])
    Jul 27 2025
As we enter the fifth year of our podcast, we are so, so grateful to all of our listeners for their time and support. This particular episode is dedicated to Sean, a listener whose support has helped us through some very rough times over the years. Since our pod started off with a review of the Return of the Living Dead franchise, we thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our fifth year by reviewing another zombie movie. We reached out to Sean and asked him to help us decide which movie to review, and we landed on... well, a movie with many, many titles, (Don't Open the Window, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, No Profanar el Sueño de los Muertos, 悪魔の墓場 and much more) but possibly best known in the U.S. as THE LIVING DEAD AT MANCHESTER MORGUE (1974)! This movie from director Jorge Grau is streaming on Shudder as of this episode's release, and we absolutely encourage everyone to give it a watch ahead of listening to our review. And speaking of zombie-centric media, our host Jacob's debut novel THE CHANGE is on sale now from Oddity Prodigy Productions! This tale of hope, zombies, and rock & roll can be ordered wherever you get your books, but here's the link for it on Bookshop: https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-change/d2beab56340d82cb?ean=9781733393850 If you'd like to follow us on social media, you can visit our Linktree page (linked below) but we've also listed some of our social media handles: Linktree: linktr.ee/scarystuff Official site: scarystuffpodcast.com Twitter: @scarystuffpod Instagram: @scarystuffpodcast Letterboxd: @scarystuffpod Incredibly Niche Merch: teepublic.com/user/scary-stuff-podcast You can find a list of all the previous movies we've reviewed and their corresponding episodes (via the "Read Notes" option) here: http://www.letterboxd.com/scarystuffpod/list/all-reviews-scary-stuff-podcast/ And as always, thanks so much for listening!
