We unpack the urgent challenges facing nonviolent resistance, while exploring how to breathe life into democracy and human rights movements. Join our hosts, Félix Maradiaga and Emily Mellen, as they engage guests from around the world in conversations that connect on-the-ground activism with scholarly insight, building bridges between theory and practice. Maradiaga is a democracy advocate and Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Freddy Guevara joins us from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where he works as a research fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation. Guevara is the former vice president of the Venezuela's parliament, a freedom fighter, and is now a global democracy advocate. Before being forced into exile, he was a key figure in the opposition movement against the regime of Nicolás Maduro. Guevara responds to the recent U.S. operation to depose and capture Maduro, the uncertain situation in his home country, and what this means for democracy movements worldwide.
