Challenges of interstellar travel book summary

Interstellar travel, although often presented as desired and even necessary, presents us with enormous challenges. Currently, we struggle to come up with acceptable rationales to begin to plan for it. Not only that, but the task is of gargantuan difficulty. Interstellar travel is limited by several major factors, including physical and technical, and the human factor. The physical challenges include the vast distances among stars, and the time that separate suns are just incomprehensible. Other physical factors include the interstellar medium, which is hazardous with radiation and celestial objects. And, the lack of gravity is one bonus challenge that we can overcome, not after massive investments. The technical challenges are many. We lack the overall state of technology to undertake an interstellar mission. We have not the rocket power, the payload to LEO capacity, the energy and material resources, nor the infrastructure required to even begin an interstellar program. And, we lack the word industrial, scientific, and political cooperation to gather the needed resources for this largest of projects. Lastly, the human factor puts the final nail in the coffin of interstellar flight. Introducing many problematic situations with our needs as humans. The nagging problems of space radiation, low gravity, isolation, distance from earth, and hostile environments; all bring hurdles to any interstellar mission. In fact, the human factor is the largest hurdle to such mission. However, I do believe that someday we will fly across the stars, but not in the way that many envision. I believe it will happen in an unexpected but “sure-fire” manner. This short book describes the challenges and possibilities with interstellar human travel. Enjoy.

Here I discuss my latest home design project for an efficient home. I chose the triangular extrusion shape in lumber framing; for cost, feasibility and practicality of its design and construction. I equipped the home for optimum efficiency for a moderate climate location. This home is small, 3 rooms total. And it is completely self-sustained and off the grid. It has solar energy and LPG powered appliances. It runs all electronics on a 48 volt system. An interstellar mission would require tons of drinking water, food, the equipment, space, materials, and supplies; to store preserve, use, and recycle their waste. And, the bulk and mass that these resources will require would be gargantuan. Not only because of the large size of the crew of an interstellar mission. But also because of the long, long, flight ahead of them. Not only these, but the crew will likely have offspring, the next generation, who will also require nurture from water and food. And, gathering water and food from destinations enroute is hardly feasible, and would only further complicate and lengthen the mission by unacceptable margins. Our technical ability at extracting water from space destinations is precisely null. And, our skills at producing food away from earth are at best in their primitive stages. So, the problems presented by our need for water and food, in space, are tremendous; to put it mildly.

The Bonilla observation was an astronomical event in 1883 in which hundreds of unidentified flying objects were observed and photographed by Mexican astronomer José Bonilla. The photographs taken during the Bonilla observation are generally regarded as one of the first known examples of photographs of "unidentified flying objects". Safety Talks. Ladder fall incident. Here I discuss a recent accident that occurred to me. It was a fall and injury caused by a series of unsafe actions. I was in a hurry, stressed, with too many activities scheduled for one day, and under the influence of caffeine and sugar. I took several unsafe decisions, including the unsafe practices during elevated work, standing on furniture, using a ladder on a slippery floor, and using a ladder in an unsafe manner. These bad decisions resulted in the ladder slipping from the wall, on the slippery floor, and I fell with the ladder and hit the ground hurting my back, neck and buttocks.
