    • Censorship in Children's Literature with Devika Rangachari And Sowmya Rajendran
      Jul 31 2021

Any and all creative pursuits are subject to censorship and judgement. Should they be?

In the last episode of Season 1 of The Little Book Makers, Devika Rangachari and Sowmya Rajendran discuss censorship, gate-keeping, and covering taboo topics in children's literature.

Both of them are acclaimed authors who have written bold books for children. Devika is the author of one of our books - A Hundred Cartloads - and has also authored a series of historical fiction books including Queen of Ice, Queen of Earth, and Queen of Fire among others. Sowmya has authored the wildly popular Mayil books, along with Niveditha Subramaniam, and has received the Sahitya Akademi's Bal Sahitya Puraskar. She has also written School is Cool and The Boy Who Asked Why among many other books.

    • Fictionalising Real Life with Aparna Karthikeyan and Vishaka George
      Jul 26 2021

Reporting is significantly different from writing a piece of fiction. Although both require skill, the expected products in these genres of writing are nowhere close. How, then, did reporters from PARI (People's Archive of Rural India) write the chapter books we published in 2020?

In this episode of The Little Book Makers, Aparna Karthikeyan (No Nonsense Nandhini) and Vishaka George (House of Uncommons), authors of two books from the series, talk about journalistic writing and fictionalising real life.
