Shane is currently the Operations Chief for Maury County OEM, overseeing operations, search and rescue, and the K-9 program. From 1989–1993, he was a park ranger at Henry Horton State Park and later served as Chief Ranger for all 56 Tennessee State Parks until retiring in 2023. He managed 250 rangers and led emergency teams including wildland fire, search and rescue (SAR), mounted, and K-9 units. He has run 2,000+ SAR missions and helped locate 280+ missing persons with his bloodhounds.

The Tennessee Governor's One Shot Turkey Hunt is an annual event, hosted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation (TWRF), where selected individuals, often veterans, are paired with experienced guides to hunt premium properties in middle Tennessee, aiming to harvest a gobbler on opening day of the spring turkey season.
