  • 67. Growth Mindset for Success
    Apr 1 2026

The best tool for staying on top of a hard tasks, like with Sustainability, to make a big impact is a Growth Mindset. Basically, it is a mental framework for approaching life that helps reduce the impact of "failure" and "difficulty" by remembering and understanding that failure is inevitable but also a learning opportunity. Challenges are growth prompts that help you get better. And when working on the Progress over Perfection view on Sustainability employing a Growth Mindset means you're already prepared when you run into tougher fixes or scenarios that simply can't be sustainable this time.

I also cover the avalanche of "internet experts" making you feel incompetitant, insufficient, or like you're screwing it up... IGNORE THEM. That adrenalin and cortisol does not help you learn about sustainability, it does not make you better, and it has no place in your Growth Mindset. I give you full permission to ignore the fear mongering, guilt-pushing, and whatever else is stressing you on social, as long as you are Doing the Best You Can With the Tools You Have.

  • 66. Employing "Nudges"
    Mar 25 2026

In this episode, I talk about using psychology and behavioral economics to influence your sustainability outcomes at your events. I use meal choices as my example for how preset selections can influenced your attendees do what you're hoping they will do. I explain how “nudges” can guide attendees toward more sustainable options.

I reference the book Thinking Fast and Slow; the research of Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky; and site Freakonomics and Choiceology podcasts for further insights into consumer behavior.

  • 65. Managing Shifting Baselines
    Mar 18 2026

Post sinusitis/generic anger sinus issue my voice is weak but it made me think of how in nature (like my sinuses) you can accidentally change the baseline expectations or habituate to a new scenario by just experiencing it once. And that made me think of how valuable it is to plan ahead to help habituate clients and stakeholders to the scenario we WANT them to think of as the baseline, rather than accidentally let them experience something we will have to redress later.
