# Henderson, Nevada Crime Report Digest

On Sunday, January 4th at approximately 9:04 a.m., Henderson Police responded to the 600 block of North Water Street regarding the theft of a front loader construction vehicle. A security guard at a private construction site confronted the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Juan Rincon Carreno, who allegedly threatened to kill the guard while armed with a screwdriver. Carreno gained control of a 2007 Kawasaki front loader and drove it through a perimeter fence.

Officer Megan Jacobs arrived first and issued verbal commands for Carreno to stop. Carreno allegedly ignored these commands and continued driving the approximately 39,000-pound loader directly at her and her patrol vehicle. Jacobs fired her weapon, but the suspect continued to pursue her on foot. When Sergeant Lance Jaworski arrived moments later, Carreno allegedly rammed both police vehicles with the front loader, lodging them underneath the construction equipment. In total, the two officers fired nine rounds.

Carreno was struck once in the elbow, once in his lower left leg, and once on the side of his head. Both officers and the suspect sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and were transported to area hospitals. Officers Jacobs and Jaworski, employed with Henderson Police since 2021 and 2015 respectively, were placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.

Carreno has been arrested and booked at Henderson Detention Center. He faces charges including attempted murder with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and destruction of property. According to Henderson Police, this was the first officer-involved shooting in the city for 2026.

The incident remains under investigation by the Henderson Police Department. Deputy Chief Matthew Murnane indicated the incident was unprecedented in his experience and noted that construction vehicle thefts are rare in Southern Nevada.
