Federal law allows a street gang member to have federal charges added to a crime. The definition of a street gang member under this federal statute is similar to militias, white supremacists, and cult members. It seems reasonable to create a law that lumps all these organizations as domestic terrorists so federal charges can be added to such crimes as trespassing on federal property. If they were a defined domestic terrorist group member, they could have federal charges added to the misdemeanor charge, raising the jail time considerably.
