Day 20 — A Covenant Sealed by God (Genesis 15)
Genesis 15 is one of the most important chapters in all of Scripture—not because Abram does something extraordinary, but because God does.
Abram has obeyed.
He has trusted.
He has waited.
And yet fear still lingers.
Instead of rebuking him, God speaks gently: “Fear not, Abram. I am your shield.” Faith and fear can coexist—but fear must be brought into the presence of God.
When Abram asks honest questions about the delay of the promise, God doesn’t shut him down. He invites him outside, tells him to look at the stars, and reminds him that the future rests not on human possibility, but on divine faithfulness.
Then comes the breathtaking moment: God makes a covenant.
In an ancient world where both parties would walk through the covenant pieces, God walks alone. Abram is put into a deep sleep. The message is unmistakable—the promise does not depend on Abram’s performance. It depends on God’s character.
And Scripture tells us:
“Abram believed the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness.”Righteousness is not earned.
It is received by faith.
Genesis 15 reminds us that salvation has always been rooted in grace, that God binds Himself to His promises, and that what fear and effort could never secure—faith receives as a gift.
