  • Lard on Your Face? Charles Mayfield Challenges the Skincare Hype
    Nov 3 2026
This is StRest! Kerstin Lindquist knows her way around a beauty routine. But putting lard on her face? She has questions. Charles Mayfield, regenerative farmer, Farrow Skincare founder and co-author of the Paleo Comfort Foods series, joins Kerstin to explain why he built a skincare business around pig fat. They start with tallow versus lard: what each is, why Charles uses both, and how he thinks about the skin’s oils and barrier. Charles shares the sunburn story that led him to experiment with lard and makes his case for a simpler routine. Kerstin brings her QVC experience into the conversation, asking how his approach compares with the oils and products she already knows. Then Charles shares his personal shower routine—and Kerstin asks the obvious follow-up. The discussion moves beyond the bathroom to the farm. They talk about pasture-raised pigs, animal welfare, using more of the animal and supporting farmers through everyday purchases. Faith is part of that conversation, along with the responsibility they feel toward animals and the earth. They also question “clean” beauty labels and skincare marketing aimed at children and teenagers. To close, Charles shares his approach to stress, daily movement and breathing, plus a glimpse of his faith journey. Kerstin previews a members-only after show covering Charles’s faith, SPF, HRV and more on skincare. • “Our Marriage Is Hard”: Kerstin Lindquist and Husband Dan Open Up About Rehab, Recovery and Faith
    Oct 27 2026
This is StRest! For her 49th birthday, Kerstin Lindquist sits down with her husband, Dan, in Montana for an honest conversation about 23 years of marriage. Kerstin talks things through. Dan gets quiet. They discuss what happens when those two responses meet, what it is like to share a marriage with someone in the public eye, and why knowing what needs to change does not always make change easy. Dan opens up about his experience with ADHD, his routines and the challenge of taking action before a crisis forces him to. The conversation turns to some of their hardest seasons: infertility, miscarriages, an adoption that did not go forward, the loss of Kerstin’s mother and Dan’s experience in rehab. They reflect on the pain their family has faced and how they are learning to find joy while life still feels hard. They also get candid about perimenopause, parenting teenagers, different levels of sexual desire and the ways each of them feels loved. For Dan, touch brings reassurance. For Kerstin, help with everyday responsibilities matters. Their discussion of faith is just as honest, including their different views on praying together, marriage counseling and what it means to lead and support a family. There is plenty of laughter, too: dishwasher disagreements, their first date and the habits that drive each other crazy. They close with why they continue to choose each other and do the work their marriage needs. • Dr. Cate Shanahan on Seed Oils, Cholesterol and Protein Powders
    Oct 20 2026
This is StRest! Kerstin Lindquist came ready to talk about seed oils. She did not expect the conversation to turn into a debate about protein powders. Dr. Cate Shanahan, a family physician and author of Dark Calories and Deep Nutrition, joins Kerstin to explain her approach to food and why she questions common nutrition advice. They discuss her views on cholesterol, the eight refined oils she avoids, the fats she uses for cooking, and the role of sugar and flour in her framework. Then comes the question that catches Kerstin off guard: Where do protein powders fit? Dr. Cate shares her concerns and acknowledges gaps in the research. Kerstin asks for balance, including what happens when someone struggles to get enough protein from food. They also discuss why Dr. Cate views collagen and bone broth powders differently. The conversation closes with cooking food you enjoy, sorting through a viral seed oil claim, and Dr. Cate’s two daily priorities: time in nature and enough sleep. Her final message is about hope, community and small steps. In the after show, Kerstin shares where she disagrees on protein powders and continues the conversation about cooking and the question her daughter Georgia asked: How do we make things better? MEDICAL NOTE This episode includes Dr. Shanahan’s views, some of which differ from established medical guidance. High LDL cholesterol increases cardiovascular risk, and heart-health guidance supports replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats. Infant formula is an important source of nutrition for many babies. Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before changing medication, treatment or infant feeding. This conversation is not personal medical advice.
