      Jan 11 2024

In this episode, I chat with Professor Aleks Kissinger from the University of Oxford, joint head of the Quantum Group at Oxford's Department of Computer Science. His research focuses on quantum foundations and quantum software, and in particular classical and quantum causal inference, classical simulation of quantum circuits, and various aspects of quantum compilation such as quantum circuit synthesis, routing, and optimisation. Much of this work makes use of diagrammatic and graph theoretic structures underlying quantum computations, e.g. co-authoring Picturing Quantum Processes, a.k.a. "The Dodo Book", which teaches quantum theory from first principles using string diagrams.

      May 14 2023

In this episode, I chat with NASA quantum physicist, Dr Saesun Kim. Saesun Kim is a postdoctoral fellow at NASA, where he is currently working on developing a cold-atom interferometer for space missions. He has extensive expertise in quantum hardware and algorithms, with a strong background in both academic research and startup experience. As a founder of two startups, Saesun had successfully led a team of 25 members and launched MVPs, as well as submitting government proposals. He is particularly passionate about commercializing quantum technology to the industry. In addition to his professional achievements, he is also a Qiskit Advocate at IBM Quantum and a winner of a quantum hackathon for developing a quantum machine learning algorithm for weather prediction. You will hear about his quantum sensor research at NASA, startup culture, his experience with quantum communities, and his efforts to make the world a better place, one problem at a time.
