The party awakens Nova, the escaped prisoner from Al-Qadim's mountain prison. Before she departs, Zahara Linn'Tar gives Nova a healing potion. Tara Zellphera hands Nova the Map of Monastery Vaults, and the party convinces Nova to lead them to the vaults. After a brief interlude where Kil'mori commissions a special belt for the orbs from the enchanters—paying a down payment of four handfuls of currency and receiving a pouch of food beads for his familiar Archie—the group follows Nova's directions to the shattered ruins of the monastery.
Their search is interrupted by an ambush from strange, dragonfly-like creatures called Flicker Flies. In the frantic battle, a Flicker Fly slashes Nova with its wings, while another dive-bombs and then breathes a fog attack on Kil'mori. Tara Zellphera's attack kills one of the creatures. After the terrifying sight of a massive swarm approaching, the party escapes through a trapdoor into an underground tunnel system, narrowly avoiding being overrun.
