SHIFT (Shaping How I Feel Today) is all about health – but without the ‘go eat a carrot’ and ‘do more steps’. It’s about what we feel, who we are and how we are shaping who we want to become.

SHIFT is one of Beyond Empathy's Podcasts from the Edge - podcasts made collaboratively with people who have faced adversity.

Beyond Empathy is a Not-for-Profit, Cultural Arts for Community Development company that works in partnership with communities and individuals living under pressure to reimagine positive futures and develop new responses through the process of creating and sharing art.

Emma, along with co-presenters Jeannette and Oscar, all have lived experience with seizures and they take us on an audio journey that explores Epilepsy and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) through poetry, history, humour and insight. And their stories make you wonder where the real disorder lies.

    • Dalia Stefanie
      Mar 13 2023
She was 16 when she discovered that her real name was not Stefanie. Stefanie was her middle name. Her first name was Dalia. And now, in her 70's, Dalia has reclaimed her birth name.

Dalia was inspired to tell her story by young women like Australian of the Year - Grace Tame who made it clear that they would not be silent about sexual abuse.

Dalia's story telling offers insight into the beliefs, assumptions and societal shifts that have shaped attitudes towards abuse and trauma since the 1950's.

Do you want beauty or despair? ... because you can't have both!
