  • Ep13 - Review: 'Sad and Beautiful World' by Mavis Staples
    Jan 17 2026

In Episode 13, I review the 2025 album 'Sad and Beautiful World' by Gospel/Soul legend Mavis Staples, best known for being the lead singer of the incredible Staple Singers. She and her family, led by Pops Staples, wrote protest songs during the civil rights movement and had a number of hits in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Mavis' solo career is in its seventh decade, now, and I discuss how 'hard times' led to the making of this sweet and serene record.

  • Ep9 - Music Review: 'The Chess Records Christmas Album' feat. Chuck Berry and Others
    Dec 24 2025

On this Christmas episode - my first - I review a compilation of classic Christmas songs released in the 50s and 60s by Chess Records, called 'The Chess Records Christmas Album'. The artists on this album include Chuck Berry, The Soul Stirrers, guitar great Kenny Burrell, and many others. I talk about the old Motown days some and I tell some disjointed Christmas stories from years, highlighted by the music I was listening to.

  • Ep8 - Daryl Hall's 'Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine' (Classic Album)
    Dec 22 2025

In this episode, I review Daryl Hall's classic solo album from 1986 Three Hearts In The Happy Ending Machine, which featured singles 'Dreamtime' and 'Someone Like You.' I also talk about a couple of other tunes off the record, running my mouth and stuttering endlessly while musing about different genres of music and what genre combined with this other genre to give us that genre. Who knows how accurate I am, but exciting stuff, right?
