  • Creative Storytelling of the West Inspires Ted Sorensen's Art
    Jan 2 2025

Ted Sorensen grew up wrangling cattle in southern Utah with his father. As an adult, he spent years as a teacher and entrepreneur. It is the time that he spent teaching on reservations and the relationships that he cultivated that shines through in his art.

A fun part of what Ted shares is that he didn't truly begin painting regularly until he was in his 50s. A common excuse I hear from people, and have occasionally thought myself, regarding pursuing a dreams is, "I'm too old." Ted's stories and his journey are truly inspiring and a beautiful reminder that you aren't too old to pursue your dreams.

We talked about several books in our conversation. I had just finished reading, Neither Wolf Nor Dog, by Kent Nerburn. I really enjoyed the reflections on connecting to the Earth and Spirit. It was enlightening to hear reflections on cultural differences and be reminded of how we can expand our understanding of history if we take the time to listen to people that share views and experiences different than our own.

The book about Mustangs that Ted mentioned he is re-reading is, Wild Horse Country: The History, Myth, and Future of the Mustang, by David Phillips. He is currently reading about Kit Carson.

Visit Ted's website to see and buy his art. Be sure to sign-up for his email list to be the first to know about new art releases.
