À propos de ce contenu audio

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Rhode Island Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd. Folks, enjoy the quiet today because tonight gets violent. A bomb cyclone is spinning up off the coast, and it's aiming right at us. This is a genuine, no kidding around blizzard. Right now you're waking up to about 30 degrees. Calm skies. Deceptively peaceful. Providence tops out near 37 degrees this afternoon. Down along Narragansett Bay, you're seeing 36 degrees. Grab your groceries now. Finish your errands before lunch. Snow starts falling around 7 to 8 tonight. By 11 it turns ferocious. Snowfall rates hit 2 to 4 inches per hour. Winds crank up to 30 miles an hour with gusts screaming past 55. Along the coast? Gusts could touch 70 miles an hour. That's hurricane territory. Whiteout conditions make driving basically impossible. Providence picks up 6 to 10 inches overnight. Lows drop to 27 degrees but wind chills make it feel like 15. The bay side sees 7 to 11 inches with winds howling at 32 miles an hour. Monday is the main event. Blizzard warnings across the state. Another 10 to 14 inches buries Providence. The bay gets 8 to 12 more on top. Highs barely crawl to 33 degrees. Also watch for moderate coastal flooding near high tide at 11:38 tonight. Low lying areas, you'll want to move vehicles. Here's what the rest of the week looks like. Tuesday the storm clears out and sunshine returns, but it stays cold with highs in the low 30s. Wednesday brings a mix of light snow and rain near 38 degrees. Thursday and Friday linger with scattered rain and snow chances as temps creep toward 40. Saturday finally gives us a breather with sunny skies and 42 degrees. If you're traveling today, do it before dark. After 8 tonight, stay home. Period. One quick thing. If this podcast keeps you prepared, share it with a neighbor. We all need a heads up for storms like this. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care, and ride this one out safe.
