For this month's episode I interviewed Professor David Tavárez about his award-winning book Rethinking Zapotec Time: Cosmology, Ritual, and Resistance in Colonial Mexico. This study presents the first full translation and analysis of a series of Zapotec divinatory calendars that were confiscated by colonial authorities at the beginning of the 18th century. We spoke about indigenous theology, the history of the Zapotec languages, and more.
