As practitioners, we know that stress, emotions and unconscious patterns can affect the whole body. They influence our behaviour, our mindset, and even our physical symptoms.
But what can we do to get to the root of stress – both for our clients and ourselves?

This is the question that led qualified Naturopath Karlie McKeand to create Naturopathic Emotional Release.
In this podcast, Karlie goes deep into all things stress, how it impacts the body and how Naturopathic Emotional Release is a game changer in clinical practice. Karlie connects with other wellness industry leaders to get to the heart of what is really going on with our health, our mindset and how we do business.

Together, they will discuss the missing piece to the puzzle as a natural therapist - both in the clinic and in business.

If you want to learn more about how to foster client transformations, live a positive life and grow the healing business of your dreams, this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.

  • Ep 16 - The Missing Piece in Perimenopause
    Oct 15 2025

Karlie kicks off a mini-series on perimenopause and menopause, exploring why this transition is so much more than a hormonal shift. She reveals the deeper emotional and nervous system patterns that drive symptoms—and why addressing these is essential for practitioners working with women over 35.

Perimenopause isn't just about declining hormones—it's a rite of passage, an identity transition, and a release of decades of emotional load.

    What You'll Learn

    • Why supporting hormones alone isn't enough during perimenopause
    • How fluctuating hormones trigger nervous system threat responses
    • The identity crisis hidden beneath perimenopause symptoms
    • Why decades of emotional residue surface during this transition
    • How to reframe perimenopause from "problem to fix" to "rite of passage"

    The Real Problem

Clients eating well, taking supplements, moving their bodies, even on HRT—yet still experiencing fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and disconnection. The issue? It's not always something missing in the prescription.

    What's Really Happening

Nervous System Under Threat Fluctuating estrogen and progesterone impact neurotransmitters and the entire nervous system. The body interprets hormonal shifts as threats, triggering elevated cortisol and adrenaline—creating anxiety, insomnia, temperature issues, and inflammation.

Emotional Tsunami Decades of unprocessed grief, resentment, anger, self-betrayal, and self-rejection stored in the body, tissues, and nervous system—all surfacing now.

Identity Crisis Old identities (perfectionist, people-pleaser, achiever, fixer) suddenly don't work anymore. The body makes it clear: these old ways of being are no longer allowed. Perimenopause is the bridge between who you've been and who you actually are.

    The Missing Link

Women fear losing their purpose, validation, and identity. They worry about disappointing others if they slow down. Without addressing these subconscious patterns through tools like ERT (Emotion Release Technique), even the best protocols fall short.

    Why ERT Changes Everything

    ERT helps:

    • Assess nervous system and subconscious responses
    • Create safety in the system
    • Process decades-old patterns
    • Work with identity shifts
    • Provide specific, individualized understanding

Results: Reduced anxiety, improved sleep and energy, greater self-understanding, clarity, confidence, and renewed relationship with self.

    For Practitioners

When you address these deeper layers alongside hormonal support, you get:

    • Faster, more dramatic results
    • Better client retention
    • More referrals
    • Competitive advantage

Bottom line: Perimenopause is a rite of passage that needs proper support. It's not a problem to fix—it's a powerful transformation waiting to happen.

  • Ep 15 - The Missing Link in Women's Hormone Health
    Aug 31 2025

Most hormone protocols fail because they're only treating downstream symptoms while ignoring the real root cause. In this episode, I reveal why addressing the emotional and subconscious drivers behind hormone imbalances is absolutely crucial for lasting results. Discover how unprocessed trauma, limiting beliefs like "I have to do everything myself," and nervous system responses can keep your body stuck in survival mode - shutting down reproductive hormones and elevating stress hormones even when you don't consciously feel stressed. I'll share a powerful client case study that shows how Emotion Release Technique (ERT) uncovered hidden trauma affecting her cortisol levels, and why practitioners who ignore this connection are missing a huge piece of the puzzle.

  • Ep 14 - How Personality Traits Affect Client Results in Practise
    Aug 11 2025

In this episode, we dive deep into the often-overlooked connection between personality traits and health outcomes. Karlie explores how personality directly influences metabolism, hormones, sleep, cravings, energy, and behaviors—and why this understanding is crucial for practitioners and coaches working with clients.

Personality isn't just a mindset thing—it's a critical piece of the health puzzle that affects everything from hormonal balance to treatment compliance.

    What You'll Learn

    • Why personality assessment should be part of every client intake
    • How different personality traits manifest as specific health patterns
    • The metabolic implications of various personality types
    • Practical strategies for tailoring treatment plans to personality traits
    • Why protocols alone aren't enough for lasting transformation

The 5 Common Personality Traits & Their Health Implications

    1. The Perfectionist

Characteristics: High achiever, driven, rule follower, never satisfied Health Patterns:

    • Prone to restrictive eating and food obsessions
    • Over-exercising and over-dialing behaviors
    • Chronic burnout and hormonal imbalances
    • Low progesterone, potentially high testosterone
    • Sleep issues from wired and tired cycles
    • Mental health challenges around worthiness

Root Cause: Often stems from fear of failure Clinical Consideration: Address the underlying identity, not just the behaviors

    2. The People-Pleaser

Characteristics: Says yes to everyone else, rarely to themselves; ignores body cues Health Patterns:

    • Weight gain around the midsection
    • Cortisol and adrenaline spikes from going against body's "no"
    • Emotional eating patterns
    • Difficulty committing to self-care programs
    • Chronic stress from energy constantly flowing outward

Root Cause: Fear of rejection, often rooted in childhood Clinical Consideration: Help them learn to say yes to themselves first

    3. The Rebel

Characteristics: Resists being told what to do, wants freedom and fun Health Patterns:

    • Poor sleep hygiene (staying up late "because I can")
    • Nervous system dysregulation
    • Insulin resistance from inconsistent habits
    • Self-sabotage behaviors mid-program

Root Cause: Resistance to authority, often childhood-based Clinical Consideration: Present recommendations as choices rather than rules

    4. The Rescuer/Over-Responsible One

Characteristics: Carries everyone's emotional load, always worried about others Health Patterns:

    • Anxiety and chronic worry
    • Weight retention (body protecting from emotional load)
    • Elevated insulin and stress hormones
    • Dysregulated nervous system
    • Immune system issues and thyroid dysfunction
    • Health always comes last

Root Cause: Identity tied to being needed and selfless Clinical Consideration: Establish boundaries and address the "suffering badge"

    5. The Avoider/Disconnected

Characteristics: Detached from body signals, avoids emotions Health Patterns:

    • Unconscious eating patterns
    • Dissociation through food, substances, or activities
    • Unable to identify body cues or symptoms
    • Potential underlying trauma responses

Root Cause: Often trauma-related disconnection Clinical Consideration: Focus on reconnection through "why" questions
