    This special episode of “Prescription for Hope” honors the life, legacy and wisdom of Dr. Robert L. Smith – affectionately known throughout MetroHealth as “Dr. Bob.” Dr. Bob spent decades serving as a counselor, friend, advocate and guiding light for MetroHealth caregivers. He passed away on August 11, 2026. In this episode, we share some Dr. Bob gems, which highlight his simple-yet-powerful message of love, kindness and understanding. This includes his thoughts on self-compassion, relationships, emotional regulation and the acceptance of life’s problems. Earlier this year, MetroHealth dedicated the “Robert L. Smith, PhD, Medical Staff Wellness and Resource Center” on the second floor of our Main Campus Glick Center hospital. The MetroHealth Foundation has also established the Robert L.     When a mass casual incident hits the fictional trauma center on the TV series “The Pitt,” the care team is prepared to handle the influx of dozens of patients. They have a plan and a process. No one wants to think about an MCI happening in our community – whether it’s a mass shooting, building collapse or large fire. But like the team on “The Pitt,” the caregivers at MetroHealth must not only think about MCIs, they must prepare – with a plan, a process … and practice. On this episode of MetroHealth’s “Prescription for Hope,” we go behind the scenes at MetroHealth's first-ever system-wide mass casualty simulation, complete with a real-world scenario, actors and fake blood. And we get to listen to how 150 caregivers turn chaos into a coordinated, effective response to save lives. It’s all about training for the unthinkable, so that MetroHealth’s Level I Trauma Center – the most experienced and most trusted in our region – is always ready to step up and serve when our community needs us most.
