Back-to-back re-releases! This is a second supplement to the upcoming Episode 39, which details the moves Yzerman made in Tampa Bay, but does not go into all moves made by Yzerman in Detroit. This was recorded in September of 2025, so no Red Wings moves beyond that point are included.

Correction: at some point in this podcast, I misstate that Chris Yzerman was "in charge of" professional scouting. This is incorrect, as there has not been a titled Director of Pro Scouting in Detroit since Mark Howe left in 2022. Humble apologies.

In preparation for a larger episode exploring the differences between the Tampa Bay and Detroit tenures of Steve Yzerman, I'm releasing the very first episode of PFH ever recorded, detailing the situation that Ken Holland left behind from his management in the 2010s. This should serve as a supplement to Episode 39 and can be skipped if you don't want to relive the horror.

This was recorded back in August 2025 with Derrick Weber and Adam Lanseur (with non-professional recording equipment), but we go in further detail to the Red Wings situation before Yzerman took over with more detail than Episode 39 would allow for.

On this emergency "After Dark" edition of the PFH Podcast, we reckon with the announcement that Steve Yzerman is no longer the man in charge of the Detroit Red Wings. After 7 seasons with the team, the Red Wings announced that a search for the next GM is underway, and that Yzerman is going to be moving into an advisor role to Chris Ilitch. We reflect on those 7 years, especially the events of the offseason leading up to this. We also remark upon the timing, and how we are left to speculate reasons for the decision and its timing.
