Stan Lee, born Stanley Martin Lieber (1922–2018), was an American comic book writer, editor, and publisher who profoundly shaped the history of Marvel Comics and the superhero genre itself. Starting his career in 1939 at Timely Comics (the precursor to Marvel), Lee, alongside artists like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, co-created an astonishing roster of globally recognized characters in the 1960s, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Iron Man, and the X-Men. Lee revolutionized comics by injecting his heroes with human flaws, complex personalities, and relatable problems, contrasting sharply with the perfect archetypes of the time. This innovation, combined with his famous collaborative "Marvel method" of storytelling, transformed the industry and established Marvel as a dominant creative force
