À propos de ce contenu audio

We want to tell stories from the world of science and academia, and the people within it. Each episode will touch upon an aspect of the academic world that both of us (hosts Jeroen en Lieke, newly starting their non-academia jobs) have dealt with, fought with, are frustrated with, or with an aspect that we love, that made us consider staying, that lead to the both of us staying for as long as we did. We’ll talk about money, time, politics, job security, sexism, racism, ethics, integrity, freedom and more, but all in the context of science and academia, and hopefully while keeping it all kind of fun. We will interview people who’ve lived through the good and the bad of academia, in its different forms, and those who are actively working on improving the system.

We’ll also talk to people who work in science but outside of academia, and see what they have to say for themselves! Have they sold their souls? Can good research exist outside of academia? Hence the name Minor Revision – which represents the (not so major) overhaul of our working lives, but also refers to the common phrase in the academic peer-review process. Just as with leaving academia, getting a ‘minor revision’ review implies that your work is good, but you're not quite there yet. Fine-tuning work needs to be done.

Lieke talks to Jeroen about why he decided to "leave academia". Turns out, laboratory experiments didn't feel real enough for him. Listen to what that means in this episode.

Here is the link to the study that compares lab studies to "real-world behavior". (https://doi.org/10.1287/mnsc.2017.2908)

And no, that was not really Hemingway's writing routine...
