Don’t let the faces fool you. Chapter Eight of SEETHINGS III is one of the most visually shocking and psychologically revealing chapters in the entire novel. What begins as a planned “art performance” quickly becomes a symbolic unravelling of boundaries, relationships, and sanity.
Mitchell and Felicity prepare for their live-art sex piece with meticulous ritual. The canvas is pristine, the colours prepared, the cameras positioned, and Hayden—her husband—reduced to a silent, obedient servant. Mitchell asserts dominance from the start, ordering Hayden into muteness and total invisibility. The power imbalance becomes its own kind of theatre.
Felicity and Mitchell strip, paint each other, and transform themselves into embodiments of primary colours: red (Mitchell), blue (Felicity), and yellow (shared accents). Their bodies become tools—brushes, rollers, stamps—smearing symbolism across the canvas.
