À propos de ce contenu audio

Medium Dives is where we chat about anything we find interesting enough to share - society, science, history, cults, crime, or just finding the answers to the things that keep us up at night. Our promise to you is that we will look into things at least a medium amount, but we are too lazy to commit to a deep dive. We absolutely will get off topic, but we think you’ll be entertained. We try to post a new episode every month - follow our Instagram where we will post when a new episode is up! Feel free to email us with topic requests, comments, questions, or just to say hi!

  • E6: Monkey Selfie Copyright Qualms and Big Milk Propaganda
    Jul 23 2024

Let's pretend like this almost 4 month long break was intentional, shall we? This episode, Alicia talks about several legal cases involving animals, including one involving copyright disputes over a selfie taken by a monkey. Then we get into a discussion about animal rights activism and whether it's ethical to own pets. Tyler follows up on cheese caves, mentioned in Episode 4! A surplus in dairy products led to the U.S. government owning a bunch of cheese and a nationwide promotion of milk.

  • E5: Groundhog Day Ridiculousness and How Do You Scratch an Itch in an Iron Lung?
    Apr 7 2024

Alicia talks about the origins of Groundhog Day, going all the way back to Imbolc, then Candlemas, then finally to Pennsylvania Dutch culture. We also have a lot of fun talking about the lore surrounding Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous weather-predicting groundhog. Tyler explains iron lungs and answers some questions that have kept him up at night, like how do people scratch an itch or prevent bed sores when in an iron lung? We also talk about Paul Alexandar, a man who achieved amazing things while in an iron lung.
