  • Ep.11 - Raise the Floor with Daniella Moiseyev
    Sep 1 2026

I want a lot of money and I'm not even a little bit sorry about it. Somewhere along the way women got trained that wanting a certain lifestyle, asking for what you're worth, saying out loud that you want more — that all of that makes you a bad person. It doesn't. Being a bad person makes you a bad person. You can be ethical, sleep well at night, step on exactly nobody, and still want the whole thing.

This week I'm talking with Daniella Moiseyev, who has spent close to 30 years in financial services and came in with a stack of sticky notes and zero interest in pretending it was all a straight line. We get into the concept of your floor — the number in your account below which you start to panic — and how that floor isn't built in, it gets raised on purpose. She tells the story of negotiating her first salary from $18,500 to $21,500, which went against every "nice girl" rule she'd absorbed, and being so proud of herself she thought she was rich.

We also get into the thing I've started calling borrowing someone else's belief. My coach recently told me the number I made this year should be more than triple that, and I told her she was insane. She just kept asking me why. And then it doubled. Daniella had the same thing happen with a mentor who wouldn't stop asking why she couldn't go for the top job, until she'd talked herself right into it. That's what the right people in your corner actually do — they don't shield you from hard truths, and they don't dismiss your dreams either. If you leave a conversation feeling energized, even a hard one, those are your people. If you leave feeling ugh, they're not.

And then the part I needed to hear: you can have it all, you just can't have it all at the same time. Daniella lives by a line from Michael Porter — the essence of strategy is choosing what not to do — and she means it about her career, her house, her whole life. Plus her leadership mantra, which I want tattooed somewhere: the org chart says they work for you, but really, you work for them.

  • Ep.10- Because I Want To
    Aug 26 2026

I have hated the "start with why" exercise my entire coaching life. You know the one — you say what you want, someone asks why, and why, and why again, until you supposedly hit some noble, world-saving reason underneath it all. Every single time I did it I landed in the exact same place: because I want it. And then I'd throw judgment all over myself for not having a save-the-whales answer.

This week in my coaching group I finally got language for why that never worked on me — and it turns out nothing is wrong with me. There are three doors into change: being, doing, and feeling. Some people start with the feeling and it moves them to act. Some start with the doing. I start with being. Ask me why and I've got nothing. Ask me what I want and I'll build you the whole plan.

I also walk you through a decade-mapping exercise that wrecked me in the best way — going back through every year of your life and marking four things: what made you proud, what brought you joy, where you carried a burden that wasn't yours, and where shame showed up. Watching shame cluster in my early twenties and then thin out while the proud stuff took over? That's not a summer rebrand. That's years of different decisions finally showing their fruit. (Also: you apparently can't realistically plan past three years. Which is a relief.)

The moment it clicked was booking a Disney World trip for me and my son — crying at the confirmation screen because I knew what I wanted, I did what it took, and the feeling showed up last. It always shows up. So here's what I want you to take with you: you do not need a grand, bigger-than-you reason. "Because I want to" is a complete sentence.

  • Ep.9- What Are You Spending to Feel? with Katherine Tipper
    Jul 28 2026

I've never told this story publicly before: for the five years after my son was born, I was heavily discouraged from going into entrepreneurship — told, essentially, that starting a business or hiring a coach could put my child support at risk. No shade to anyone; we all operate from where we think safety lives. But when I finally started my business, I cleaned out my 401(k) to do it. Less than twenty grand, a bigger tax bill than I bargained for, and zero regrets. Katherine calls that an "alternative investment." I call it the best bet I ever made on myself.

This episode with Katherine Tipper — one half of the husband-and-wife team behind a 27-year-old pension firm, and the voice behind the 401(k) Couple and Planarchy podcasts — went straight past 401(k)s and into the stuff nobody teaches you: money is an emotion. We get into why retail therapy actually "works" (it fakes the feeling of progress), and Katherine's game-changing reframe: name the emotion you're chasing first, then ask whether you actually need to spend money to get there. Sometimes it's a new couch. Sometimes it's a three-dollar donut in a park, or a stack of France books from the library.

We also go deep on what it really looks like to build a business with your spouse — roles, boundaries, and the very real difference between your marriage voice and your work voice (turns out you cannot pitch a great idea through the shower curtain). Katherine's the queen of the berets, and there's a whole thread here about becoming more visible as you get older instead of less, once you stop caring whether 99 people think you're insane and start caring about the one person who recognizes you.

If you're starting a business, or eyeing a second act, this is the honest version: entrepreneurship is the most intense interpersonal work you'll ever do, running a business is far more creative than anyone tells you, and passion doesn't pay unless you get strategic about the vehicle. Find the emotion. Then find a way to get paid for it.
