À propos de ce contenu audio

Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Massachusetts Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 21st, and folks, we need to talk. A monster is coming. Right now things feel deceptively calm. We picked up about two inches of snow in the last day. The flakes stopped. You might think winter's taking a breather. It's not. It's loading the cannon. Here's the deal. A bomb cyclone is spinning up off the Mid Atlantic coast. By Sunday night, it slams into us with everything it's got. Heavy snow. Hurricane force wind gusts. Coastal flooding. This is the real thing. Today you're seeing highs near 34 degrees in Eastern Mass. Head out to Pittsfield and you'll hit 41 degrees this afternoon. Enjoy that warmth. It vanishes tonight. By 4 A.M. Sunday, temperatures crash into the low 20s. Wind chills drop near 15 degrees. Now here's where it gets serious. Sunday afternoon, light snow begins. By Sunday night, the beast arrives. Boston could see 13 to 19 inches by Monday evening. Wind gusts of 55 to 70 miles an hour. That's tree snapping, power line dropping wind. Blizzard warnings are already up east of Worcester. Nantucket faces gusts up to 70 miles an hour. Storm surge of 9 degrees to 9 degrees feet hits at high tide early Monday morning. Plymouth down through the Cape and Islands could flood. If you're near the shore, move your car to higher ground tonight. Worcester and Framingham? You're looking at 12 to 18 inches with near whiteout conditions Monday. Even the Berkshires catch 9 to 13 inches. Snow falls at 2 to 4 inches per hour at peak. That buries cars fast. Here's what's coming after. Tuesday clears out but stays brutal cold. Single digits overnight. Wednesday drops another 3 to 5 inches. Then Thursday warms into the low 40s with a rain snow mix. Winter's not done yet. Charge your devices tonight. Stock up tomorrow morning. Monday, stay home if you can. One more thing. If this podcast helps you prepare, share it with a neighbor. Storms like this are better faced together. Stay safe out there, folks. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
