    • How Surreal

What started as a follow-up episode on feet turned into a journey through the subconscious! Hear how the unconscious mind influenced an art movement, learn about some tips and tricks by that movement, and get a crash course into why we are still intrigued by what lies beneath...or under or hidden, in our bodies and minds.  This episode took forever because there was so much to look into, but I've got the general ideas down to 20 min (which is long enough!). A quick note: I mention Freud being problematic two times and that's because he and his methods are. I didn't have the bandwidth to get into that but please read this excellent summation by the folks at Gizmodo if you want to learn more. https://gizmodo.com/why-freud-still-matters-when-he-was-wrong-about-almost-1055800815 Other notable reads:  https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/23273-autonomic-nervous-system https://www.ideo.com/blog/5-creative-exercises-from-the-surrealists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Persistence_of_Memory https://www.moma.org/learn/moma_learning/themes/surrealism/tapping-the-subconscious-automatism-and-dreams/ **free class to the first person who sends me the correct number of how many times I say the word “actually”**
