À propos de ce contenu audio
In March 1955, Walt Disney put a former SS officer on prime-time TV — and 42 million Americans believed every word.
His name was Wernher von Braun. His war crimes file had been falsified by the U.S. government under Operation Paperclip. And the man holding the microphone — Walt Disney — had been an FBI informant since 1940, a fact only confirmed when his 570-page FBI file was declassified under FOIA.
This is Episode 8 of Just Killing Time with Elizabeth Stanton — Part 2 of the Space Series — and it's the story of the most successful propaganda operation in American television history. Three Disney space specials. President Eisenhower screening them at the Pentagon. Operation Mockingbird quietly running in the background. And one Tuesday night in 1955 that quietly rewired what an entire generation of Americans believed about space.
Then we go to July 1969 — and we look honestly at the Stanley Kubrick / Apollo 11 moon landing theory, the documented NASA-Kubrick connections, and the 2002 French mockumentary "Opération Lune" that fooled millions of viewers worldwide.
We end where every Just Killing Time episode ends — in Kansas. At the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, one hour from Derby, standing in front of a lunar rover replica with wheels woven from zinc-coated piano wire. Go look at it. Ask the question. In this episode:
- Walt Disney's declassified FBI file (1940–1966)
- Wernher von Braun, Operation Paperclip, and the Disney specials
- "Man in Space" (1955), "Man and the Moon" (1955), "Mars and Beyond" (1957)
- Operation Mockingbird and the Church Committee
- Stanley Kubrick, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the moon landing theory
- "Opération Lune" — the mockumentary that blurred the line
- The Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle, up close, in Hutchinson, Kansas
- Eisenhower, the Pentagon, and the propaganda loop that worked
