À propos de ce contenu audio

Low Traffic Future is an alliance of individuals and organisations, calling for transformative change in transport. We would like to see our roads, streets and transport networks planned differently, giving us real choices in how we go about our daily lives.

The Low Traffic Future Podcast is a space to share ideas about the future of transport in the UK.

Our vision is a world where fewer journeys need to be made by car, van or lorry, so that we all benefit from cleaner air, safer streets, more vibrant communities, a stable climate and a healthy natural environment.

    • Everyday Concerns: What People Want From Transport
      Jan 13 2026

Tonight, we’re diving into a topic that affects every single one of us the moment we step out our front door: the future of how we move.

Our guest tonight is a leading voice in transport policy and social justice. As the former Head of Transport Policy at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), he has spent years at the intersection of climate action and public engagement, ensuring that the 'human' element is never lost in the data.

He joins us tonight to discuss his recently published research. We’ll be looking at just how much transport matters to people’s lives, where our common ground lies, whether or not the ‘culture wars’ are real and a whole lot more.

Stephen is going to walk us through these findings in a 25-minute presentation, which we’ll then follow up with a live Q&A.

So, to tell us what the public really wants from our roads and rails, please welcome Stephen Frost.

    • Stuck in the Slow Lane: Tackling Car Dependency
      Oct 23 2025

How do we persuade decision-makers, politicians, and communities to take bold action on traffic reduction?

Join us for the first in our new series of evening webinars, held in partnership with our allies, where we explore the art of communicating the case for reducing car dependence.

Our speaker is Izzy Romilly, Sustainable Transport Researcher and Campaign Manager at Possible, who'll be covering the evidence on tackling traffic. Izzy will share insights from Possible’s new work aiming to win over politicians and the public to the benefits of tackling car dependence – from cleaner air and safer streets to stronger local economies.

This is a recording of a one-hour session held in October 2025 for campaigners, councillors, community groups, and anyone who wants to build support for positive change in transport.

    • The Cultural Blindspots in Transport | Professor Ian Walker
      May 9 2025

In this episode, I’m joined by Professor Ian Walker — an environmental psychologist who digs into why we do the things we do, especially when it comes to transport. We chatted about why people drive even when it might not seem to make sense, how SUVs took over the streets, the strange psychology of pavement parking, and what all this has to do with the global financial system. It’s a serious chat — but also lots of fun.
