Sometimes, there comes a point when you don't need more information... you just need to be encouraged.

I was inspired to do this episode when I read an Instagram post of a young girl who was experiencing bullying, and another young lady who expressed that although she looks happy on the outside, she's struggling a bit on the inside.

So, here's some much needed encouragement for us all. A little mid-week pick-me-up.

For more, listen to episodes 1 & 2 to establish a healthy and positive mindset no matter your current circumstance.

Thank you so much listening. Please rate, subscribe, and share it with a young person you know.

Mission statements aren't just for businesses. They're for all of us.

They ground us and keep us on course so that we can live a purposeful and intentional life.

Personal mission statements communicate a life's focus and values, and grounds your actions in a set of core beliefs.

We don't stumble upon a purposeful life. We have to be intentional about living one.

In today's episode, you'll write your very own personal mission statement!

  • Ep. 5 - Writing Your Personal Mission Statement: Pt. 1
    Jun 29 2021

We make choices everyday that impact who we’ll be and the life we’ll live. If we want to live a life of true purpose, we have to live on purpose.

Writing a personal mission statement can help to anchor your decisions in purpose so that you live the life you've been called and purposed to live.

    Reflection Questions:

What do you believe? What do you want to believe?

What do you value? What do you want to value?

What do you want to do?

How do you want to treat people?

How do you want people to remember you?

What impact do you want to have on those closest to you? Your community? The world?

  • Ep. 4 – Managing Academic Pressure
    Mar 6 2021

I know that managing school work has been really challenging. We’ve all had to adjust to a completely new way of teaching and learning. The first thing to know is that you are more than your grades! Whether you’ve made straight A’s or straight F’s this school year, your value as a person is so much greater than what any report card can show.

But, whether you have done very well, or have struggled, here are three things you can do to better manage your school work.

    1. Dedicate a time each day to complete any homework and/or missing assignments. Maybe it’s every single evening from 5pm-6pm, or 8pm-9pm, or 3:15pm-4:15pm. Get into a routine and make that time a priority. Setting aside this time will allow you the structure to get things done.

    2. Dedicate at least 1 or 2 times a week that you will visit your teacher’s office hours to get support. We are here to support you!!!

    3. Keep all of your materials organized. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed when things aren’t organized. When school is over for the day, make sure everything is in the appropriate folder, or notebook, and put it all in your backpack, ready to use again the next day. The more organized your things are, the less cluttered your brain will feel.

    You’ve got this!

Let me say again, your worth and your value have nothing to do with your performance in school. You are worth more than you’ll ever know.

    Reflection Questions:

What is currently causing you the most stress when it comes to school?

What is one thing you can do to lighten to load? It could be one of the suggestions mentioned in the episode.

How does knowing that your value is not tied at all to how you perform in school change your attitude about the stress that school can bring?

    Homework:

Think about and let me know what jobs/careers you’re interested in. This will help you know how to best make this “vehicle” serve you.

Please share this episode with one or two people who could benefit from the message.

  • Ep. 3 – Dear Black Boys
    Feb 28 2021

Dear black boys, when God created man, as in humans, He created you first.

There’s an order to the way God established things. He made you first. He made you to be the leader, and he made women as your helper. Without this order in our community and in our homes, the black family is destroyed. I don’t need to say it here the tragedy that has become the black family. Our communities are filled with poverty, drugs, violence, and fatherless homes, all of which lead to broken girls, and boys who never learn how to be men. Because we have been ignorant, we have not protected ourselves from the attacks on the black family. They know if they can destroy you, they can destroy a whole race.

    Black boys, we need you.

    We depend on you.

You are the healing balm, we desperately need.

You are the healing salve, the ointment, the comfort, that our community needs.

    Reflection Questions

    1. How has your experience with or without your father shaped who you have become?
    2. How has your experience with or without your father shaped what you want for your own future and future family?
    3. If you could have the “perfect family,” what vision do you have for your future family?
    4. What can you begin doing today to work towards a strong future family?

  • Ep. 2 – A Mindset for 2021: Getting Grounded pt. 2
    Feb 22 2021

    Episode Page: http://loveyoutolife.co/podcast/ep-2-a-mindset-for-2021-getting-grounded-pt-2/

This episode is part two of a series on mental health.  If you haven’t heard part one, make sure you go back and listen. Part one sets the foundation for us to build on today.

Getting grounded is all about establishing a mindset for 2021 that’s gonna give you peace and hope, no matter your circumstances. For a healthy mindset, we have to be grounded.

Last week we created awareness. We talked about how we have to be like the tree, planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. These trees do not fear when heat comes; and their leaves are always green. They  have no worries in a year of drought and they never fail to bear fruit.

Today, we’ll go one more step in the direction towards establishing a healthy and positive mindset for 2021 and beyond. We’ll build a simple  daily routine that will set the foundation for the rest of this work.

    Reflection Questions

    1. What if things continue to be what they are? What would that mean for you, your future family, and your friends? What happens if we don’t fix this mental health crisis?
    2. Have you been intentional about maintaining a healthy mind?
    3. What do you need more of in circle #2?
    4. What is one thing you can begin doing (or one thing you need to stop doing) today to get it?

    Activity

Make two circles on your paper, side by side. In one circle, write the words depressed, anxiety, violence, dark, death, suicide, virus, stress, restrictions, quarantine, and murder. These are words that have dominated the news.

In the second circle, write these words: light, refuge, safety, guarded, loved, kindness, rest, covered, salvation, confidence, satisfied, grace, life, strength, endurance, and hope.

It is possible to be in the world, filled with death and darkness, but not be of the world. We can still be at peace, and at rest.

There is one remedy for the mental health crisis raging in our society today; We must be grounded in God’s truth and his safe habitation.

I know that talking about faith and making it a part of your daily life is new for many of you. Download the workbook that guides you through 12 days of establishi

  • Ep. 1 – A Mindset for 2021: Getting Grounded pt.1
    Feb 14 2021

This episode is part one of a series of conversations we’re going to have about healing our minds, and establishing a healthy and positive mindset.

In 2020, The world health organization wrote that depression was the leading cause of disability in the world. According to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association, adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old have the highest rate of major depressive episodes. Your generation has suffered deeply from depression and a toxic mind.

Today, we say enough is enough.

To have a healthy and positive mindset, you have to get grounded. To get grounded, you have to be planted in the right place.

    Reflection Questions

Where are you planted? The honest answers to these questions will show you where you are planted.

    1. Where do you spend the most time?
    2. With whom do you spend the most time?
    3. What do you spend the most time doing?

Whether you’re depressed, scared, or fortunately doing really well, these conversations on mental health and the right mindset to endure whatever may come, are so important and necessary, especially right now given the current state of events in our country, and the world. I can’t wait to continue the work next week.

Please share this episode with one person who could benefit from the message. #YoureMyOne #EachOneReachOne

We’re trying to change a whole generation, and we can’t do it alone.

Thank you for being a part of the conversation, and the work.

    I love you to life.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit”
