Dracula wasn’t born in a castle, and he definitely wasn’t born sparkling. We start with the real-world roots of the myth in Vlad the Impaler, then follow the vampire story as it migrates through European folklore, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the film versions that lock the character into our collective brain. Along the way, we call out the weird details that make this legend stick, from “vampire panic” misunderstandings about decomposition to the way blood becomes a shortcut for fear, desire, and danger.

Then we make it personal and very Gen X. The late 70s, 80s, and 90s don’t give us one Dracula, they give us a whole vampire food court: comedy, horror, romance, cartoons, and cult classics. We talk Love at First Bite, Count Von Count somehow becoming a kid’s first Dracula, and why the 80s are the undefeated decade for cool vampires with swagger. From Fright Night to Once Bitten to The Lost Boys, vampires stop being dusty aristocrats and become stylish outsiders with soundtracks, trauma, and attitude.

The 90s flip the genre again by making vampires romantic and tragic. We get into Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) and how it ties the Vlad connection into a love story, then zoom out to Anne Rice’s huge influence on modern vampire fiction. We also hit TV staples like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the pop culture moment when everyone knows the rules well enough to parody them. We wrap by mapping the major vampire archetypes, including Blade’s action makeover, and we land on the real reason Dracula survives: every generation builds the version it needs.

  • Keaton Keaton Keaton
    Oct 23 2026

A toddler shoplifts candy at Wawa in broad daylight, a great white launches out of the ocean like it’s auditioning for Shark Week, and somehow that’s still only the warm-up before we go all-in on Michael Keaton. We’re Nicole and Heather, and our brains work exactly like a Gen X group chat: horror streaming, true crime burnout, coastal storm chaos, and then a hard pivot into the movies we can quote from memory.

We trace Keaton’s path from Pittsburgh roots and Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood to early film swings like Night Shift and the forever-classic Mr. Mom. Then we hit the roles that shaped a whole era of 80s and 90s pop culture: Beetlejuice, the Tim Burton connection, and the Batman and Batman Returns run that still sparks arguments about the best Batman. We also talk about how Burton builds a loyal creative “crew,” why that vibe is so recognizable, and where Keaton’s darker edge fit perfectly.

From there, we look at the later chapters, including the Birdman comeback story and the Spotlight moment, plus a rapid-fire set of Keaton fun facts and roles he turned down. We wrap with a real-life vent about USPS election mail scrutiny, shipping label mistakes that trigger postage due, and what it’s like trying to do the job when everyone assumes the worst.

If you love Michael Keaton, Tim Burton movies, Gen X nostalgia, or just honest friend-talk with detours, hit play, subscribe, share the show, and leave a review. Then email us your favorite Batman and tell us why you’re right.

One movie scene can turn a “whatever” product into a permanent part of culture, and once you notice it, you can’t unsee it. We start with our usual real life swirl, the SpaceX “space squid,” an update on endurance legend Carl Bushby, and a surprisingly honest detour into life insurance, death plans, and the oddly comforting idea of donating your body to science.

Then we go deep on product placement in movies, the kind Gen X grew up breathing in through VHS rewatches. We break down the marketing alchemy behind Reese’s Pieces in E.T., how Ray Ban Wayfarer sales were revived by Risky Business, and why Top Gun made aviator sunglasses feel like an identity instead of an accessory. From Vans checkerboard slip ons in Fast Times at Ridgemont High to a Baby Ruth moment in The Goonies, we track how brands become emotional shortcuts when they actually belong in the story.

We also hit Twinkies in Ghostbusters and Zombieland, White Castle turning into a true destination thanks to Harold and Kumar, Toy Story using real toys as real characters, and the strangest win of all: PBR getting a counterculture boost from Blue Velvet. If you love 80s movies, 90s movies, consumer culture analysis, and the way nostalgia messes with your shopping cart, you’ll have a lot to argue with us about.
