  • More Non-Kirby Games We'd Recommend to Kirby Fans
    May 5 2026

What makes a game a good Kirby-adjacent recommendation? Is it the ability to use enemy powers? Smash Bros.-like controls? Or maybe just solid platforming with a round, memorable character? For this episode, we cover all of these elements and more with another list of non-Kirby games we think Kirby fans should try. We're deliberately going in this weeds with some of these choices, spanning multiple consoles and even one never-released Super Famicom title, and we hope you walk away having learned about at least a few new games you want to check out.

Questions or comments about the show? We always love hearing from listeners, and you can reach us at mail@kirbyconversations.com or submit your question to us on social media.

Sean also has a new podcast covering the GameCube, Dreamcast, and other games of the 2000s called Millennium Edition, and we hope you will subscribe to that one as well! Find it on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. It's the first Sound Stone Network original podcast, and we would love to have your help in building an audience for this brand new show.

The Sound Stone Network is a collective of independent podcasters covering video game history. In addition to Kirby Conversations and Millennium Edition, our shows also include Darren Hupke's interview show Pixels and Polygons, Gooey and McKenna's Nintendo 64 history podcast Flashback 64, and Nic McConnell's game manual stream Instruction Derby.

This episode also includes an ad from Tokyo Game Life, a podcast we really think our listeners will like! Check it out at https://tokyogamelife.com/ or on your podcast platform of choice.

Our opening music is by Megan Kelz and arranged by Duncan "PixelTea" Smith (https://duncansmith.carrd.co/). This episode was edited by Sean and Gooey.

  • Bonus Mailbag Episode: Our Favorite Bosses and the Mysteries of Shiver Star
    Mar 24 2026

Is this bonus episode, Sean, Bridget, and Gigi are answering more listener questions, covering their favorite bosses, Kirby Super Star ninja tech, the mysterious Earth-like features of Kirby 64's Shiver Star, and more.

Thank you to everyone who submitted questions to the show, and if you'd like to share something with us, like a discussion question or a recommendation for a future episode, we're always excited to hear from listeners. You can reach us at mail@kirbyconversations.com or submit your question to us on social media.

We've gotten quite a few questions as well that were wondering general questions about Kirby, with some people wondering about the number of abilities in certain games, whether the character came before the vacuum cleaner brand, whether Kirby was a specific type of animal, why he is "so hungry," and others where we thought the best answer might just be to direct people to other resources about Kirby. You can listen to Masahiro Sakurai discuss his initial creation of Kirby here, and he also talks about the development history of many Kirby games on his YouTube channel. https://wikirby.com/, where Gigi is Editor-in-Chief, is an excellent resource for specific game details, and you can also look back at our episode library to see if we've looked at the history of a game you were curious about, too. So thank you to Kattari, Laney, William S., Saia, Allura G., Grey, Nick Randall, Erica S., Hannah Williamson, Griffin, Enrique S., and Janet N. for their questions that were focused on either who Kirby is or Kirby trivia. Hopefully answering in this format helps clear up the things you were curious about. :)
