This week we had to go back (a little late) to Crystal Lake as we try to tackle more of this franchise, this time with Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood, or as it has affectionately been dubbed "Jason vs Carrie". That's right the one with the psychic/telepathic powers. It also happens to be Kane Hodder's entrance into the franchise as Jason Voorhees.And if you’re going to deal with a telekinetic teenager fighting a zombie in a hockey mask, you’re going to need a stiff drink. We found the perfect thing in Friend of the Devil, a powerful Belgian Tripel by our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. The perfect companion, but be careful it is every bit as dangerous as Jason himself.A curse on Crystal Lake. A death curse.

This week we headed into the scorched earth of 2002’s Reign of Fire. A close look at what happens when you wake up a dormant species of fire-breathing lizards in the London Underground. You get a gritty, soot-covered cult classic full of dragons and we are here for every minute of it.

The boys are back... in Wabasha! That's right we revisited the 1995 sequel, Grumpier Old Men. We're talking Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and their return as elderly frenemies, Max and John. This time their feud takes a backseat (sort of) when a new Italian restaurant threatens their beloved bait shop and brings another new woman to town.

And to celebrate these two stubborn legends, it felt only appropriate to once again crack open a beer that feels like it was brewed specifically for these movies, Old and In the Way by our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. This beer is light and crisp and the perfect companion for a day battling it out over the ever elusive Catfish Hunter.

This week we were indoctrinated by the indie comedy/thriller "How To Start A Cult in 5 Easy Steps". It follows a debt-ridden graduate who decides that if you can’t join the workforce, you should exploit it by becoming a guru. It’s a satire on modern "alpha" influencers, financial desperation, and the chaos of manipulation. It's directed by Wes Clark, who we were able to chat with and will release that interview later in the week.

And for our drink of choice we decided to stay away from the Kool Aid at the compound and instead went with a delicious 10 Ton oatmeal stout from Warped Wing Brewing Company. With it's chocolate and coffee notes and smooth creamy texture, it was the perfect thing to keep us from being swayed by a charismatic cult leader.
